Today we got to do our first design charette in Malmö. We recently walked near a plaza during one of our tours and it needed some improvements. It was mostly a surface parking lot and half an open space. It was our chance to come up with a redesign of this plaza to make this part of the community more inviting and fun.
We got into teams of 5 and we all came up with designs. I got teamed with Marisa, Rasam, Noelle, and Diana, and we all came up with a design based on more public space for different uses and less surface parking spaces. We included more playful art installation, a central fountain and different water canals that was both for art and aesthetics reasons. After two hours of outside design, we all returned back to the hostel and got ready for lecture and presentations.
After our presentations, we were all tired and ready for a nap, so we all took an hour long nap and then explored the city. We went to the bibliotek of Malmö, which was very different from what it looked like inside. It was very modern inside while the outside was very medieval century. The furniture was from ikea (of course) and had many art installations that was great to look at.
Afterwards, we went to the Peoples park of Malmö. Supposedly it was a park that resembled that of a festival - always had things to do, from food to music to a giant trampoline that could house 30 people on them. And it looked like a giant pillow on the floor. Of course we went there first; it was a lot of fun, just jumping around and almost falling off haha. After letting out the kid in us, we walked around more in the park and ended up heading back to our hostel.
It was our last night in the Malmö, so me, Melody, David and Brittany were determined to go out to a bar or something. Everyone else wasn't up for it, as they had gotten out the night before or were exhausted from today. But we ended going to a bar our professor suggested. Moosebar. And guess who we ran into there? Our professor! It was pretty cool. We all just sat there and talked for a good hour or two, drinking our beers and wine and hanging out.
It wasn't until we had enough of the expensive drinks that we decided to leave and head out for some cheap and quick food: Mcdonalds. Our professor left about 10 'mins before we did, and we decided to do the same thing.
After getting our McDonalds fix (which btw their chicken nuggets were delicious) we headed back to our hostel, and began the long process of packing and getting ready before our departure to Copenhagen in the morning.
