Thought for today is...I´m sick of not being able to flush my loo paper!!!
Bus journey here was very good. National Express, who perform well in England could learn a thing or two. There was plenty of space for legs between seats, all passengers were allocated seats, the seats were padded more than Nat Ex, and the reclining ... a choice of 6 positions.
We journeyed on an empty road for 4 hours without seeing another village or settlement. We passed 3 Estancias (ranches) which each own 80000 hectares to run 40000sheep, alpacas or less cows.
The border crosslng conslsted of 2 shany towns and 2 sheds, one in each country. Our passperts were stamped by both, our bagslooked ant and we were asked if we had had contact with flu!
20minutes down the still empty road we came to Puerto Natales a small once port on Last Hope Sound at the southern tip of the Southern Ice field. It is a simple but friendly settlement, most buildings are made rom corregated iron but are palinted and pretty. Our hotel is made of the same material. Consequently I am sweating as I write this because it is a sunny evening. The locals think it is boiling, and the children are swimming in the lakeside harbour. All the families come to the harbour front between 4pm and 8pm if it is summer...The children either bathe naked or in their clothes. It is not wasm, I am wearing my t shirt, thin fleece and long trousers with my zip up fleece round my shoulders. Damian is wearing his long trousers too...so that tells you something.
Tomorrow we are spending the day travelling by ferry boat and bus and zodiac through the Southern ice field area ending up in the national park area of Torres Del Paine. Here we are staying for 3 nights. Not sure that there is internet there, so may be I´ll have to word doc till later. Damian and I spent the afternoon walking along the front, then sitting on a bench watching the locals, or reading. Pretty tough eh? By the way kids, you´ll be pleased that I used my ipod nano most of the way here...thanks for buying it fot me...great to be serenaded by my favourite music as I travel along
Early start tomorrow, but no worries.
Nature watch report is that today we saw alpacas, reas, condors, hares, sheep, cowsblack necked swans and some other ducks, forgotten what they were.

Lindy Hi Lynne & Damian Once again fabulous pictures and great descriptions of the next phase. I can only imagine what these giant icefields must look like. What would I be like on these boats ... knowing what I'm like on the water, Lynne. Why can't you flush toilet paper. I am really looking to reading about Torres Del Paine. This is a place Stan & I have talked about at length. Love to you both XX
