Brazilian Iguazu
Today began in the usual Hayes fashion...exceptionally well prepared, relaxed and ready. However, there was one small problem which was of course an advantage....I set my mobile phone to wake us at 7am, so that we could be downstairs for breakfast with our passports, camera and sunhats ready to go withthe guide at 8am. Yep, we were on schedule, only when we reached the lobby it was 6.30am not 7.30am...my mobile phone has a GPS on it and apparently realised it was just across the border in Argentina and not in Brazil After I had moved the clock!!!!! So, the day started with a very leisurely breakfast!!!!!
In order to go to the National park and falls today we had to go through the customs of both Argentina and Brazil. It seems that although there are 7 computer stations at the first border, there are onlt two workers...so we had another rest whilst our guide queued for 15mins with our passports....this was repeated at the next border, but no worries hey, after all we are retired.
Nothing could have prepared us for the fantastic and spectacular experience of seeing and feeling these waterfalls. Even after the flight over them yesterday it was hard to grasp the magnitude and expanse of them. The power of water is felt from several of the view points, and the spray was refreshingly soaking us. A Canadian couple said that the Iguazu Falls make Niagra look like 'water from a tap' . All I know is that I can't wait to go back tomorrow but this time on the Argentinian side which means no customs...hooray!. We're spending the whole day on that side tomorrow including a lazy lunch.
Thisafternoon we enjoyed some down time under the shade beside the pool in our lush tropical hotel garden. Just about to go out along the road into Peuto Iguazu for supper.
Tomorrow we are being met by our guide and driver at 8am, however the alarm on the phone won't be a problem because the battery has run out and I've brought the wrong lead for charging..hey ho.
