Chillin' in Barioloche
After that long day journeying through the Andes by boats and buses we did absolutely nothing on Tuesday except swim in the hotel pool, read books, sleep and eventually go out to eat.
The sky was cloudless and has been for the last three days, so the lake really does look deep blue. The guide said that until our arrival they have had rain and snow, not much summer at all, and that this is a late summer this year!
The local restuarant is wonderful, serves any dish you can think of using wild boar, 'deer' and trout...when the trout is used up there is no more until tomorrow. We can eat a meal of our choice with wine, coffee and liquors for around between £10.00 - £18.00 in total. I really enjoy the 'deer' stew anf the wild boar stew which come in rustic bowls with a spoon!! Wonderful flavours. The restaurants in Argentina and Chile don't open til 8.00pm at the earliest. People eat between 10pm and midnight, and I mean whole families with babes in arms...Liah you would approve!! They do take a long siesta from 1pm til 4.30ish though.
Alan, talking of food, you know how we both love scallops...well, in Puerto Natalis I ordered scallops as a starter in a local restaurant. They came in a rustic bowl with a spoon.....all 21 of them!!!! Wish you were there! (cost £1.75) Then to follow I had chosen fillet of sea bass....luckily on its own...it arrived covering my plate....five pieces..you and I would have been able to share the meal and feel completely 'stuffed' Needless to say I didn't manage to eat all my main course (cost £4.00)
Yesterday, Weds we caught a local bus the 25km to the 'port' where there are marked walks in the forest. The ride cost £1.00 each and the buses run from where ever you stand every 20mins. we visited the Hotel Llao Llao for lunch...apparently it's an exclusive 'leading hotel of the world'....we were quite oblivious, walked in , asked for a map of the walking areas, and if there was a restaurant or bar for lunch.
Apparently it is a guarded hotel and resort, and you are supposed to telephone and book in advence so that they know who you are...it was a very nice lunch, a good bowl of soup, pot of coffee and we were attended very well. Our rep thought it was hilarious that we'd just walked in...come to think of it there were several discrete radio messages being passed from on to another whilst we were there. The hotel had a great golf course G and J.
We enjoyed our afternoon walk through the forest...not a jungle because there were no vines and creepers though there were plenty of bamboo and giant trees of various descriptions. Caught the bus home to the hotel, swam and then ate !!
Today we are going to go to the gondola and have a walk about the mountain we hope...though never sure what to expect! Sun is still shining and the temperature is good, not too hot, but strong mountain sun, hence we are wearing shirts and factor 30!! Parts of my anatomy are shall we say, pink and will not be seeing the sun for a while!

Alex Alan says that you'll just have to manage with 1/2 doz scallops cooked on the BBQ when you come here!! Your holiday and photos have been great to follow, you're never going to get back to your old routine now!! Me jealous???
