Lynds' Travels
Hi all,
Well it has been much quieter since the family have left and Juli and I have watched many, many films - mainly girlie ones, as she doesn't do horror, doh, but girlie's ok too! Juli, Simone (her sister) and I went to the cinema yesterday to see 'Just Like Heaven', which was predictable, but nice....not as good as Narnia though!
I have been out and about a few times, trying to keep a little of the spirit of 'Uncle Travelling Mac' about me (for those not in the know he was from the Fraggles!):
We went to Scarborough beach last week in the evening and had fish and chips though it was rather poor. We went to a pub after, but couldn't get in because I had flip flops on, so we came home again.
Mark, Juli and Mark's friend Jel who is over from the UK and I went to Freemantle again this week. We ate dinner in Little Creatures (I really like this place) then went to a late pub called The Sail and Anchor, which was good fun. I was designated driver though, so I had to watch Jel and Mark get drunk (Juli is still a little scared of alcohol so she took it easy!)
I have been to the Western Australia Musuem, which is housed in the old library in Perth. This is a really interesting, but small museum, the most significant part for me being about the aboriginal children that were taken from their parents to be 'civilised' right up until the 1970's. This is what the film, 'Rabbit Proof Fence' is about. Very heart-wrentching.
I went to the Art Gallery today in Perth, though it was a very unsuccessful trip. I took my niece to give Julianne a bit of time to do some jobs, but art, it seems, is definately not Georgia's thing! We arrived and she was extremely happy, but within 5 mins she had done a big, fat squidgy poo. After changing her we walked around a little and she was fine, but as soon as we went upstairs she was screaming before we had even left the lift! After many attempts to settle her and calm her down I thought it would be best to leave and walk around outside for a while, as did Georgie evidently, as she shut up as soon as we hit the outdoors, and was immediately all smiles, raspberries and dribbles! Worse thing about it was that the museum's ceilings were so high, her squeals and screams seemed like they were coming from the depths of the Earth, they echoed so much. So in all I think I saw about an eighth of the museum.
Tonight Mark, Juli and I are on a mass babysitting evening for her brother. As well as us three and Georgia, there will also be Juli's 2 nephew's, Daniel and Travis and her 2 niece's Jaimee and Shona. We are planning to watch Sky High, a Disney film, have a takeaway and play a few games.
Tomorrow we are going to a bbq for one of Juli's friends who has just returned from living in the UK and we plan to go to King's Park either tomorrow or Sunday day to do the Tree Top Walk, though this depends on the weather as it hasn't been great the past two days; rain and everything!
Next week Juli and I are going to visit the pancake shop -mmmm- and hopefully go to Caversham Park, which is a wildlife centre where you can feed the kangaroos and koalasstuff.....I can't wait. Welshy I'll try to get a picture of their paws!
The 26th is Australia day, which is a public holiday here (why is St George's not!?!) and we are going to fill up the 'esky' and take some tinnies to the Foreshore to watch the fireworks, so that should be a good evening.
On the 27th, the day after Ozzy day (hope I'm not driving), a load of us are going to stay up in Lancelon for the weekend, where Ken is going to teach Mark and I to surf....let's hope the sharks stay around Queensland or don't mistake me for a seal!
Then I will be travelling up the West Coast a bit and hopefully swimming with some dolphins....I'll let you know.
Anyway, hope you are all well.
Oh, forgot to mention. I went back to the doctors again after the cream didn't work and it turns out I actually did have a tropical worm (who we affectionately named Frank!), crawling around in my back...yuk! One hundred pounds, a course of antibiotics, 5 tablets and a whole lot of cream later and he seems to be dead. RIP Frank! Forever please!
