Hello all,
Lancelin was an awsome weekend. There were quite a few of us in all, which was good fun: Mark, Juli, Georgia, Jel, Simone (J's sister), Ken (husband), Adam (family friend), Johnny and Kelly (S+K's dogs) and myself.
After uncamping our gear and getting sorted we all went to the pub, which was about a 20 min walk through the little sea side town. We had a nice evening drinking and eating, which obviously continued when we returned home, where we had a pool comp - which I won I might add! (Whilst we are on the subject, can I add Ken was the only one to pay me my $5, tightwads!)
On Saturday after a yummy, yummy big breakfast we left Juli and Georgia in charge of Johnny and Kelly and headed to Wedge Island, about 1 hour and a half over very rough terrain (4WD necessary - which is soooo much fun!) - for our surfing lessons.
Well I am not quite a pro surfer yet...in fact I was absolutely abismal. However luckily I am able to blame the very windy conditions (I think). We couldn't practice anything on the beach as the sand was going in our eyes and in the sea it was all that I could do to stop the board smacking into my face. The current was soooo strong as well and any attempt I made to 'surf' (I could hardly get on the board, let alone stand up!) took me about 20 mins walk to get back to the others. A lot of hard work for not much to show for it.
Unfortunately (/luckily) we were all in the sea, so I have no photos to show for my efforts. I do have a blob on the horizon photo of my brother doing it though. He was ever so slightly better at it than I was! Maybe I shall try again over on the East Coast....where all the sharks are!
On the way back Ken took us up to see some sand dunes in his 4WD. Unfortunately I wasn't really paying attention to what was coming up ahead (I was sitting in the very back and looking out to the side.) and with a coke in hand wasn't expecting to go full pelt down a dune. As you can imagine coke went everywhere, however it didn't fly out of the can, rather I spat it out of my mouth in a shocked, unexpected way! I didn't look pretty, I had coke all over my face and it was all over the window and chair (oops!) But we were still driving in a very bouncy, erratic manner and I was giggling too much to clean myself up. Loads of fun!
In the evening we celebrated Ken's 21st (yeh right!) birthday, with a traditioanl Aussie barbie and a yummy cake made by the lovely Monie. 2 of Ken's friends joined us for the evening too - they were actually the owner's of the house - so it was a great night. We finished off watching a comedy video of a stand up guy called Carl Barry (I think), whom was quite funny, though I was a little tired, alcholed up and still had sand in my eye, so went to bed before the video finished.
The next day we cleared up and made our way home. I saw a bush fire in the distance on the way home.
Yesterday poor little Georgia had her 6 months needles. She was very brave and didn't cry for very long at all. She was much braver than her mother who was a whiter shade of pale when we entered the doctors (I know she is anyway, but you get my meaning!!!).
Today Juli and I have done a bit of shopping, then we are off to her friend's house Sarah and Andy's tonight for pizza, yummy.
Tomorrow I am off on a 7 day tour of the western coast, up to Exmouth. I can't wait, though my departure from the family is drawing ever closer and I'm not looking forward to that. 2 weeks on Saturday.
Love Lynds
