Hello to all,
Well the clan have arrived in full force (nearly 2 weeks ago actually, but I've been busy!) and I am now staying in a posh part of Perth - Hillary's Boat Harbour, very unbackpacker like - with my Dad having been chucked out of my brother's place to make room for Nathan (and his Mum, Dad and Nanny) I can't complain at all though. Hillary's is really nice and our apartment is on the third floor, so it's nice to sit out on the balcony in the morning sunshine; a favourtie pastime of my Dad's. The complex has it's own pool, though I haven't used it yet, and a beach about 5 mins walk away.
Nathan and Georgia have chatted to each other through high pitched squeals (Nathan is better at this than Georgia) and they seemed to be getting on well at the start, until Nathan's curiousity got the better of him and he started to try to pull her around. He even attempted to bite her on the bum. Now she is rather wary of him!
So what have I been up to? I have swam in Mark's pool - and had an allergic reaction to some foam things Mum bought; I have been to Cottosloe Beach, which is lovely; I have seen wild kangaroos; I have been to Perth Zoo and I have been shopping loads and loads....Christmas pressies to buy afterall.
It's really wierd having Christmas in the sun, it doesn't feel that Christmassy actually and the Aussies (or the Western Aussies) don't seem to go in for it as much as we do....the shops don't look that Christmassy and there haven't been any Chrimbo anthems on the radio, annoying or otherwise!
This year to save time and money we have picked 2 names from a hat to buy presents for. The first name pulled we have to buy a decent present worth $100, the second a fun present up to $20. I thought it was a really good idea, until Mark and Paul pulled my out of the hat. My brother got my name for the bigger present, so I'm sure I'll get something really big and expensive that I can't carry and that I would have loved at aged 10! I'll have to fill you in next week.
On the weekend the family and I (9 of us including the babies) went to Maragaret River, a town about 3 hours south of Perth, famous for its wineries and cheese factories. We were there for four days and had a really lovely time. The place we stayed in was massive, with a giant kitchen; a pool room (as in pool table, not swimming) and 3 lounges. The en suite bathroom even had 2 showers in it, why I don't know, but impressive all the same!
We visited wineries - Cape Mentelle, Xanadu, Vasse Felix - a couple of breweries; 2 cheese factories (Paul, Juli, Mark and I went a bit overboard on the cheese and bought about 7 different types...what fatties!) and a chocolate factory, mmmm yummy. We went to a couple of nice restaurants, a few pubs and we visited the beach, though it was a little cold on the day we went and we couldn't go in, though I had a paddle. Also we had a family pool competition on Saturday evening, which was won by my brother and Paul damn it! However, I am proud to announce that I did beat my bro the night after (he claims to have drunk to much!) ha,ha! It was a really nice weekend.
This week we plan to go to the Convict Prison at Freemantle and Rottnest Island to see the Quokkas, which I think are a bit like small wombats...not too sure!
My spider bite still hasn't gone down, in fact it has moved loads and actually looks like a worm now! I'm going back to the docs today.
Oh, had a scorpian in Mark's pool today, just about to take a photo of it, so I'll send that on soon.
Loads of Love
