WOW
The theme of today was religious diversity, and boy did we get diversity!
5am start with breakfast, then got on the bus to the nearest underground station (Chandi Chowk) in our matching purple t-shirts, where we all (100 people) got on the metro system into old Delhi. Now Old Delhi was exactly like I thought the whole of India would be like, small streets, market stalls, dogs, hussle and bussle etc.
Start of with we visited Jamamasjid mosque commissioned by Jay mahala, and got a talk there about Islam, and their religion beliefs and traditions. This is the biggest mosque in Delhi.
We then wondered through the narrow streets of Shahjahanabad in Old Delhi to a small house/courtyard area called Haveli. I sat on the roof and we got traditional music played to us, then we all started dancing (bollywood style obviously!) Following our crazy jamming session we had a traditional Indian breakfast which was lovel and spicy. I got a henna tatoo on my hand which was beautiful, but hard not to smudge!
BOUGHT BANGLES- even cheaper than last time, 3 sets for Rs50!
Instead of walking back we got on an indian rickshaw (bicycle) and got taken back to the bus. Then we went to Gahndi's crib, (only joking went to Gandhi Smriti) which is the site of Ghandhis final 144 days. We had a wizz around, which was a shame because I would have liked to spend more time there, and there was way too much attendtion on the interactive exhibits and less on actually what Gandhi did and who he was.
Had lunch on the way back and then back to the hotel before me, Molly and Louise jumped into a tuk tuk (Autorickshaw) and went to Dilli Haat, a shopping centre recommended to us by Anish (Our purple leader) It was a medium sized small tourist market, but with some funky items for sale. I bought some marble glasses (cups) and some small gifts for the family. Also picked up some very awesome orange elephant trousers and my name on a piece of rice! It was a lovely little market, then came back to the hotel before we left for Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, a sikh house of workship. It was beautiful, so much marble! Then from there we went to a 5* hotel, which was beautiful and then went down to the club downstairs (what 5* hotel has a secret nightclub??) it was really weird, very provocative nightclub with dirty comments everywhere, and we were there for a networking event called 'living and working in India' with very high up professionals (What networking event is in a dark nightclub...bit weird!) but we got free soft drinks and nachos, so it wasn't all that bad! Had a very interesting talk from a gentleman who was designing the first traditional industrial food production town!
Back to the hotel and bed, Knackering day!
