I am here, Morocco, Marrakech. Last minute holiday by myself before I start work. I don't really know why I chose here, nor do I know really why I wanted to go alone. I didn't even think about asking anyone else. And I don't know why. Woke up at 3am, drove to gatwick, flight over here, then a dodgy taxi that didn't know where he was going and charged me a bomb! Then a man who I knew really he was going to ask for money, but honestly didn't think he was so pushy, but he got me to my hotel, then the guy inside was very helpful, I get the feeling though that laos time is replicated here. And nothing gets done quickly at all. It started raining whilst he was driving me a very crude map of how to get to the square, but in the end it got me here! Don't know how I am going to get back though, most definitely quite lost! Firstly had a rest in my room, which is basic, haven't even got a bin, but hey ho, you pay for what you get and for £150 for 3 nights including flights you can't complain. Although I have realised my initial currency conversion was wrong, otherwise everything works out to be just a few pennies! It's roughly 10(their currency) to €1 ie £1 is what I am working on for the moment. Had one of those emotional moments again when I get to a new place and the. Freak out because I don't know what I am doing and everything is very daunting. But got myself up and walked out the hotel in my sexy pink trainers and waterproof. It's cold here! Currently sitting with a warm cup of verveine which I think is a local tea, the waiter said it relaxes you. I also got attacked with some henna by a lady in the square, so have some sort of weird flower on my hand now! There are a lot of French people here, and everyone seems to speak pretty fluent French, which means I'm going to get practicing a little bit of my French and Spanish! Should have also bought the sunglasses out with me, it's quite bright! Just soaking up the atmosphere at the moment, going to make sure i am back at the hotel before dark though, this maze of small streets could get even more confusing at night! There are some cool things for sale, leather bags, giant vases, lots of wooden antiques, and even saw some horns of some animal, but don't think easyjet will allow me on with those in hand luggage! It's a lot more touristy than I was expecting, especially as we were the only plane in the whole airport!
That phone call that I got yesterday from the weird number, was actually the hotel calling to see if I wanted a taxi to pick me up from the airport! And I didn't even think about that! The hotel is quaint, but very hard to find! As I expect any hotel is which is in the old area. I have talked to the owner of the hotel and booked a kind of full day tour around Marrakech, seems to have most of the town included in it, and then just confirmed camel riding and quad biking with another tour company on Wed, so got most of my time here planned out. Today is my exploring day, which is going g quite well so far! Seeing as it is quiet season here, the place is still busy, can't imagine what it is like during peak time! People seem friendly, but then they always will be, when there is a chance money is involved! Asia wasn't like that! Have to admit, this little place where I'm having my verveine is very popular! - the terrace is anyway! They are also cat people here, but all look like they have owners. Missing mummy quite a lot, I don't know if this is her type of place, it reminds me a lot of Iindia but just without all the rubbish and people begging everywhere! Some pretty cool gifts though! And there are no elephants here! ;) hehe
