Today started early again, but this time it was a 630am tour around Old Delhi. We first went to a mosque called Nizamuddin Dargah; is the mausoleum of one of the worlds most famous Sufi Saints, Nizamuddin Auliya. It was hidden behind some very old houses, and you would never have guessed it was there if you didn't know. There were lots of beggars inside, and anyone who needs a place to sleep on the floor is given somewhere to stay here. All are welcome. Women couldn't go into the shrine area where the men were bured though. Then we visited the India gate at the centre of Delhi. It is a memorial to Indian and British Soldiers killed in all the previous wars. It is also the site of the unknown soldier known as the 'flame of the immrtal soldier'. We came back to the hotel and had breakfast. We then left to go to the college and meet up with Nidhi, chatted for a bit, had a presentation about a future in compuer society and job prospects, and another presentation on immigration of the wealthy and poor. Talked, had lunch took loads of photos! She is really good friends with Tom and John's partners. They really are like freshers! She showed me her project she is working on about defraction, very interesting and you cans ee her passion for science. We then had lunch and then got the chance to draw some henna on our buddies! I did such a bad job on her hand she is going to wish it comes off sooner rather than later! O felt so bad, but then she had a go on me and wrote her name and a basic design, a lot better than me! The tubes of henna are so cheap that I might get some in Mumbai before I go back and practice on Sarah or Mummy when I get back to England! :P
Following lots more photos the heavens opened and it started a torrential downpour, some people started dancing in the rain-bollywood style! So instead f playing basketball we all learned a dance (not from Delhi) It was good fun, those who were really good at it will get to perform at Freshers on Saturday. We got on the bus and went back to the hotel, had a quick reflection meeting about how we thought the last few days had gone and then got on the busses to the womens talk. It was supposed to be about women in India today, however all of the women were not really an accurate representation of an Indian woman at all, most of them were daughters of wealthy fathers. In actual fact, they tried to say that it was more difficult for a rich Indian woman to adhere to expectations, rather than a poor one....think she's a bit out of touch with reality there!
So came back to the hotel and had dinner
