At work this week I've mainly been focused on writing the functional plan and associated annexes (risk register, change control process etc)
It's also been NAIDOC week which celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. The Office of Commonwealth has developed a Reconciliation Action Plan so attended the NAIDOC festival in Musgrave park on Friday to promote it - along with Borobi the Commonwealth Games mascot. Our team went along to support, there were lots of stalls & community groups promoting education, training & employment opportunities and a stage where local groups were doing traditional dances / playing traditional music etc. Was a fun couple of hours out.
In addition to the festival, the bridges have been lit up in traditional colours too so I went out with my camera Thursday night to take some pictures of the bridges (I might get round to uploading them rather than my iPhone ones one day)
All the walking has helped with our Walk to Rio team challenge. In the run up to the olympics, DTESB (my Department) is trying to walk the 14500ish km to Rio. Each team has been given a country to represent (we were given New Zealand) and they'll be prizes for those who walk the most, embrace their country etc. I've worked out if each of our team walk 10,000 steps that's around 8km a day, which over 7 weeks will be 2450km which is the distance from Brisbane to Hamilton in New Zealand which is where Andy is!
