Today's visit to Harrods was amazing! I could honestly have spent weeks in there perusing everything from diamond jewelry way out of my price range to a whole section of uniforms for the most elite private schools in London to giant bears taller than me (also out of my price range! Actually…most things in Harrods were out of my price range!).
Esther and I began out Harrods experience with a stop at one of the store's many cafes - terribly posh & entirely populated by French waiters & waitresses who looked us up & down & made me scared they might ask us to leave because we didn't look rich enough to be there! The maître Dee greeted us with "Just here for coffee?" Um, excuse me, I may well have been there for a 6 course meal! Your never know! It could have totally been a Pretty Woman moment! Of course, we were in fact just there for coffee…haha
And so we dined on an assortment of fancy little croissanty things - pain au chocolat, a sugary bun thing, and croissant filled with almondy stuff. Of course it sounded much nicer in the description in the menu, but still, you get the point! The whole place was just gorgeous, with beautiful pastel china & shelves & shelves of macaroon towers, boxes & ribbons to wrap them in & all sorts of beautiful culinary creations.
We then ventured into the candy department, the Harrods section (yes, there is a whole section dedicated to Harrods and merchandise) & the toy store upstairs. More like a toy world really. I had this very vivid memory from my childhood of seeing a huge teddy bear in Harrods and it turned out my memory in no way over exaggerated that! I was delighted to find 3 teddy bears taller than me, at only (ha!) 2000 pounds a pop. Shame they'd be a little inconvenient to take backpacking…
Having barely scraped the surface of Harrods (which included a trip to the most extravagant bathrooms I've ever seen in my life…complete with Gucci perfume to freshen up!), I met Dad at Paddington station for lunch while he was on a break from work. We then said our farewells for now & I navigated my way along the tube station to meet Esther back in Golders Green to pack for our journey tomorrow. We'll be heading of at 6:30AM in the morning, & then it's cheerio London, bonjour France!!! :D
