Ladies & gentlemen, bienvenue France! :D Yesterday Es & I were up at the crack of dawn (not hard for me) to begin our journey to the beautiful French countryside. We navigated our way from Golders Green to King's Cross Station, St Pancras (the international railway station), through customs & onto the Eurostar to Paris. From there things got a little trickier although it turns out my high school French is actually pretty damn good! Well…my "Franglais" as Dad would call it :P
I managed to converse in French with the lady at the ticket booth to secure our tickets from Gare d'Austrlitz to Blois, & in no time we were off & away, ears pricked as the incomprehensible announcements came over the loud speaker, desperately hoping the hear the word "Blois" as a sign we'd actually made it onto the right train…which we did!
After enduring a rather long journey with Esther sitting next to a woman with a love of Heineken beer & some neglect for personal hygiene (smelly!) we made it to the beautiful town of Blois in the Loire valley. The people here are so friendly & very tolerant of my Franglais, and were happy to help us out with directions to our hotel which was only a few minutes walk from the train station. The man at the frond desk was very helpful & showed us to our lovely 3 bed private room - not bad for about $25AU each a night!!
We spent the afternoon exploring the town & walking through a beautiful chateaux - just one of the many in this part of the world where the general theme is "my castle is bigger than yours!" And then we ordered a baguette from a local boulangerie& sat in the park under the blossom trees to eat our dinner. The most exciting moment of my day happened while ordered those baguettes, when a true French local asked me if I was American. "Non", I said, "Je suis Australienne, et desolee, mon Francais est tres mal!" "Non, non!" he replied, "C'est bien, tres bien!" - he seemed rather impressed, which I found rather exciting! Hehe
After dinner we strolled home - it was still warm & stayed light until 8:00PM! Aaah le joie de vivre! :)
