So after spending our first experiences of Thailand's islands on the west coast we set off for the gulf of Thailand and the party islands of Koh Samui & Koh Phangan. After booking our tickets we did actually remark that the 5 hours we were told it would take wasn't too bad looking at the map. However surprise, surprise it took us more like 9, making us arrive at night in the pissing rain, typical Thailand!
Koh Samui as a whole is pretty commercial and is very similar to touristy resorts you can find in the Med, they even have the local speciality dish of the 'English Breakfast'. We kinda knew this was going to the case so wern't too surprised so brassed ourselves for a few days beach and drinking, shame eh!!! The beach here was pretty nice and gave us an oppurtnuity to break out the bat and ball skills. All the Newquay gang will be pleased to here that we have lost none of our talents and had the whole beach in a amazement! Linz wore herself out so much that she had to have a Thai massage, although i'm not too sure how relaxing this was. The old bird who was conducting the massage was literally kneeling on Linz at times and even managed to rub her fingers into Linz's mozzy bites, gross!
One of the night outs we had was really cool as we headed down to the beach and sat on these carpets with little tables. Really good atmosphere as you tuck into your grub you literally have the sea lapping at your feet. After a fair few happy hour cheap drinks a couple of little thai boys came up and asked if i wanted to play a game of connect 4 for money, being on my way and rather cocky i areed. Needless to say two games didn't last long and the boys run off laughting to themselves with my money!
Not much else to report really from Koh Samui as it wasn't one of the most memorable stops on our trip. The next journal entry will be more extensive as this contains the awesome Koh Phangang and the famous full moon party.
