So what have we been up to, well let’s start off with probably the best thing we did over the last few weeks and that was the bridge climb. We booked this a few weeks before we actually went and to be honest I (g-man) wasn't the keenest as I aint a fan of heights and it is pretty expensive. But after Linz said she was gonna defo do it whether I would or not, I didn't have much choice as wasn't gonna be shown up by a girl! So we decided to book a night climb which I thought yeah maybe a bit better than daytime as might not be able to see the floor as clearly! The whole climb itself takes about 3 and half hours, with 1 hour spent getting kitted up and the actual climb taking the rest. To do the climb you have to wear this big boiler suit and a harness which attaches you to the bridge for the whole trip. They also give ya all manner of other gear like, hat, hankies, head lamps, radios, I felt like batman with his utility belt when ready to go, it was cool! The walk itself consists of walking under the bridge along this hanging walkway till you get to the arch and believe me this was the worst bit. At times you just looking down through this grate your standing on and below there is a 70 meters drop, bloody freaky man. This was the point when Linz suddenly realized that she wasn't as confident on heights and was bricking it more then me. After this you have to climb numerous ladders and then you are on the arch which you just steadily climb looking out over the amazing views of Syndey Harbour. One of the best bits is what they call the black rainbow. This is where the light from under bridge are shinning up into the sky and if you look directly up the shadow of the bridge creates this strip through the sky, pretty special. When you reach the top you cross other onto the other side and head back down again stopping occasionally for the odd photo, however you can't take your own camera with ya, so we haven't got that many pictures but there’s a couple on here for ya. The whole climb wasn't as bad as first feared and it was one of the best things we have done so far, that little Lindsey knows best eh.
January the 26th is Australia day over here and a public holiday. I think it supposed to be the day Australia was first colonized or something like that, if your that interested I suggest googling it and not trusting me. Anyways, we decided to spend it in Darling Harbour as they had live bands, a fair type thing and in the evening a massive fireworks display. Oh yeah and plus the fact it’s full of bars was a little incentive as well. We spent the beginning part of the day in the Chinese gardens soaking up all the chi. Really tranquil place, although maybe not the day we went as there were live bands outside, but we got the general idea of it. We spent most of the rest of the day drinking in this bar, listening to this really cool DJ. He was accompanied by this guy who kept playing the bongos and trumpet to all the house music, strange mix but totally pulled it off. After all this we watch the fireworks and I’m not sure if it was the drink but we thought that the fireworks here were better than the ones on new years eve and that’s saying something. They were all done to music and to finish it off they arrange for this F14 fighter jet to do a low fly over. Man this was so cool as there were flames shooting out the back and the BOOM which followed was deafening. Our experiences of Australia day were nothing but positive and to be honest we really respect and envy the way this country comes together to celebrate themselves, its defiantly something England could take note of.
A couple of Saturday's ago we decided to take a trip to Palm Beach, this is where they film Home and Away and is just in the north of Sydney or so we thought. We caught the bus and thought is was only a 1 hour ride, yeah right, 2 hours later we arrived! When we got there we found out there was b***** all to do and the day we had chosen wasn't the best weather wise, so we couldn't have even sun bathed. So we took a couple of pics had a hot dog and headed back. Not one of the best things we have done and if anyone else out their is thinking of going, don't bother!!
Last weekend we went to Luna Park, the fun fair in the harbor. Nothing special really but had some good views from on top of the Ferris wheel. Highlight was when I used all my skills in a 'knocking the cans over game' to win a chicken hat! Check out the pictures, totally worth the trip over to the park and ive got a funny feeling you will be seeing a lot more of the hat in pictures to come. After this we went to this German restaurant called the Lowenbrau bar. Its a authentically German as you sit in rows, eat tons of meat, listen to oomph bands and drink huge jugs (he he) of beer. We dully obliged and had to be rolled out of there as was so stuffed. I think pork knuckle is now my favorite meal!
Last Thursday Linz and Twickers went to see the musical Pricilla Queen of Desert, funnily enough I declined on that bad boy, I wonder why. I'll let her explain in her own words.....
Right me back, well apart from the stuff mentioned above, we have generally just be spending our last few weeks in Sydney getting monkied and as you can see from the photos having a great crack. Some of the highlights have been......
1. Becky, Socks and Paula’s leaving do, this was spent playing drinking games in the garden. These included the flour game (Johnny the butcher), a new twist on the bowl (boob) and learning to play 'ride the bus'. This is the best game ever and I can't wait to teach you all at home this bad boy. This night also included our neighbors shouting abuse at us for keeping them awake at 4 in the morning, how unreasonable! We now have new housemates, in Ben, Pip and Senna and things re still as rocking as ever.
2. Heading over to Oxford Street and Johnny getting so monkied he could barely stand. Best part was him thinking the street was a toilet and also hiding in back of kebab shop stealing cans of coke, so funny man.
3. One night we had a barbie round Twickers and then headed to this house party over at Ryan’s block of flats. This party was the maddest I have ever seen. All the flats were open adn you could just walk in and out of them all, listening to different DJ's pumping out tunes. There was probably about 200 people there all funking out together. Kinda like Old school the movie, although lacking a streak to the quad.
4. A night out in Kings Cross where everyone cut some serous shapes. Check out the pictures some serious effort was put in and the next day I don't think anyone could move!!
5. And then there was 2 nights ago where we all had drinks at out place and then headed over to Coggee. Now the night out itself was pretty cool, but the fun totally got started when we arrived home. For some reason or another I though it would be funny to bring this shopping trolley home (why do drunk people do that) and get it in the back garden. After unsuccessfully trying to get it thought the kitchen I thought we would get it over the fence, this was one hell of a mission. The fence is about 10 foot high so the trolley had to lifted over the top. I was on one side and everyone else on the other. I managed to get the trolley above my head at full arms length but suddenly realized what the hell I was doing and begged everyone else not to drop it, I think the cries were "if you drop this I will die!" We finally managed to get it over (took about 20 minutes) and after that the fun began. As pictures speak louder than words check out the photos, classic night.
So that brings to an end our Syndey adventure and the next update will be of sunny (we hope) Melbourne. The longer we have stayed in Sydney the more we have grown attached to it and these last few weeks have been really great. It will be a bit of wrench to leave our amazing house, but on the other hand we are so looking forward to traveling again. I hope you all enjoy the update and aren't asleep, we promise more regular and shorter updates in the future.
