Hey blog fans it's the G-man again, so its time to spot those spelling mistakes again!
This blog is coming to you from the Bay of Islands, which is an area of New Zealand north of Auckland. As it is so far north they say it is a winterless part of the country with warm (ish) weather all year round and hence is where a lot of the North Islanders go for holidays. The area is made up of 140 Islands and has a strong Maori influence. There we go there's some facts for you guys and now for what we got up to.
While up in the town of Paihia we took a sea Kayaking tour. This was really cool and gave us a way to really explore some islands. When starting off our guide asked our names and we told him and like usual over here he though I said Ron! Linz said no he's name is Grant but everyone calls him Ron, meaning people get confused. However the guide took it as that was short for Grant or maybe my nickname and hence I was called Ron for the rest of the day, what's wrong with these people! Linz and I were in 1 boat and made quite a team, however my steering could off been a bit better as we were the only kayak to crash into rocks, twice! However after these small set backs, team Ron did well and we totally out powered all the other kayaks and beat them to all the islands, although I don't think they were racing (we were)! On the tour we managed to stop off on a few beach's and grab some excellent pictures, not more I here you moan!
We spent one night in a small town called Russell which we had to access by car ferry. Dead sweet town, very post card like. We explored this place, had some pub lunch and just generally chilled not spending the money we don't have. We did take a little drive up to Flagstaff Hill, which again had stunning views over the island and once again gave the camera a bashing. The following day, our second to last with the campervan we hit the road, exploring all around the tip of the North Island. We stopped off at Ninety Mile Beach (I bet you can't guess why it is called that?) and did the usual beach gymnastics. As you can see from photos Linz was pretty handy and I was errr, lets say not so good. As we made our way back towards Auckland we did stop off on route at a forest to view some the ancient Kaura trees. These are massive mama's and some can even be 2000 years old. One in particular was a monster and the trunk itself was over 13 meters wide!!!!
Well so there we go, that was our trip around the Bay of Islands and our last full days with Evie as we hand her back today. All I can say is that she has been a beaut to ride and we both feel proud to have owned her for the last 5 weeks, she will be missed, booo hooo, weeep, booo hooo................ Onwards and upwards I guess as its meeting the Thompson connection tonight and off to Fiji on Tuesday, so tune in for more fun soon
