I am going to update my log at Mama Smith request. If you think its pointless then do not read it! ;)So I have had some fun times in the last couple of weeks, it's the little moments that confirm I made the right choice to work on the cruise lines.
Today I was working on the Island it was so beautiful and relaxed compared to the front office.I was walking to work and thinking how lucky I am to be walking to work on a Bahamian Island, while you lot are probably fighting with umbrellas.I have my own little guest services desk and just answer general questions about the Island.Don't worry mum I wore suncream.I also had barbecue and got to eat corn, how I have missed corn.Me and Christopher went snorkeling on the Island, although it was difficult to spot a fish.Christopher is my friend from Trinidad and Tobago.
A couple of interesting things about the ship that you wouldn't think about and I may have told you before, so just nod and accept.
1)They have cabin inspection once a week, what a pain in the ass! I feel like I am 8 again. The most annoying time is when you have been out the night before and have to get up for that specific reason.
2)They have what is called the I95 aboard the Disney Dream. This is a large corridor that runs the length of the ship on deck one, which is the crew area. So it is like a little crew town. You have rooms, bar, canteen, shop, laundry, computer room and games rooms. As you can imagine if you end up pulling you have to walk the mile of shame, down the I95. It has happened to my friend at 5am, I will not mention any names! You know who you are 5am girl!hehe
3)You do work all day but have time off. For example today I will work from 6am - 8am but have 2x separate 3 hour breaks.Break times change every day.You have to weigh up your options during break time; sleep is always the most popular choice.
4)Officer's bar is chilled than the crew bar and has its perks.I was in there the other week, you get free nibbles and on the odd occasion free drink. The biggest perk is you get proper glasses. This may sound like a tiny thing but when you have been drinking out plastic glasses and then get a real one. Oh the little things count. You are only meant to go in if you have been invited by an officer, but we sneak in if there is an officer from our department. The night always end in the crew bar.
I am on the early shift now so usually finish around 8pm which makes a good change. So I have been spoiling myself. First I got a haircut it was well overdue. Then I went to the spa, it was so relaxing. I was sitting in the outdoor Jacuzzi listening to the waves and looking at the stars. I only paid $15 dollars cannot complain. I finished the night off on the open deck eating pizza.Life is good.
5)On Disney we have what we call a Magical Family. So every cruise one of the guest service hosts chooses a family and we give them treats everyday. I had a really lovely family and they had been on a previous cruise to Invergordon!hehe That is the reason I picked them, usually its random selection. We give them free teddies, outdoor activities, cookies, certificates and just be there point of contact for the cruise.
My favorite haunt is a little Italian restaurant on Nassau. It has an outdoor courtyard and so nice to sit and relax. We have late night Nassau tomorrow night, which I am very excited about, as we can stay out until 2am.So we are going to go Café Mattis for dinner, wine and then going dancing in a proper bar.Speaking of food I have finally been able to try the restaurants in the ship. I went to animator's palate with the girls and it was so yummy. You get to speak to Crush from finding Nemo and you get to see Bruce the shark! All we need to pay is $6 and you can eat anything you want off the menu. I also went to Lunch with Michelle (Australian) and Christopher in the Royal Palace.
In my breaks I have been going up to deck 11 and just sitting in the sunshine watching the world go by, especially on embarkation day. All the guests leave the boat early, so it is really quiet up there.
