It was sad leaving the ship. I was so excited to be free but then freedom comes at a loss. It is strange leaving my ship family behind. My 1128 family I miss you, I wish you were all here with me. I was exhausted on the first night that I just went straight to sleep. New York is exactly what I thought amazing, feel like I could live here already. Although London is still my favourite city, Britain will always be home.
I woke up feeling strange like something was missing. I have to admit it but I miss the ship. I guess when your so used to something its overwhelming changing to an environment which I dont know and alone. However after some scrambled egg and equiped with a tourist map I soon became happy wandering the streets of New York. Wow did I wander, I didnt know what to do so I just walked up and down. Before you realised I had walked from midtown all the way downtown and then walked uptown. It was fun as I would be walking and then bamn Central Station. I saw the Library and the Empire state building the same way. So I got to see alot. I also went on a night tour and saw the Brooklyn Bridge. I got very excited when I saw the New York skyline all lit up, beautiful. I will do the day tour tomorrow and I also have to sign up for the sex and the city tour.
My new favourite food is roasted nuts from the street vendor, they are sooo yummy. I did not stop eating today, food tastes so good, my ship peeps will understand. Tomorrow I am going to search for chinese that I can eat out the little boxes that you see in friends, sad I know but always looked fun. Its not as cold as I thought, it was sunny all day so I was warm in just my cardigan. Then I thought be a good idea to go on the night tour well it was friggen freezing. Not as cold as Amsterdam, I have never been that cold in my life, Wilbur you understand. So after my expedition to Brooklyn and back on the iceberg bus I went to find myself a coat in Macey. Well I looked all over the department store and could I find any coats, No! So I asked a shop assistant and apparently there is a 'coat' floor, well how was I to do know. So I trecked up to the 8th floor and there was a whole floor for just coats. I finally found a nice one after looking throught the fake fur and puffa style coats. I am not sure who wears that style as majority of people I have seen in New York have style.
I have been to Times Square which is smaller than I imagined but still really cool.Oh and sat on the red steps that are in Jay Z and Alicia Kays song.
I saw the statue of Liberty today. Did I have my camera? Nope I left it in the hostel, what a idiot! I went on a tourist boat and saw the New York Skyline from the Hudson river which was amazing, even better than what it looks like in movies. It was so cold but that view will stay in my memory box, sorry I cannot share it with you. I booked my sex in the city tour today, so I am very excited. I could probably have found the places myself, but why not let someone else show me.
I headed to Broadway with the intention of seeing Lion King. However it was $175 so I changed my mind, I will go see it in the Westend for half the price. Instead I went to a comedy club which was funny but not what I expected of my night out. It was quite dingy but it is a first for me as I have never been to a bar alone. I was fine, just sat quietly in the back and drank my beer and enjoyed the show.
I had a productive day today I got on the bus like a proper tourist and went all the way around New York from Brooklyn all the way up to Harlem and East and West in between. It's amazing how the city changes, I like the village very quaint. I fell asleep during most of Harlem as I was tired and the second Tour guide was boring. I then finally got to see Central Park, my new favorite place. It is so beautiful yet surrounded by the city skyline. I love it as best of both worlds you get the outdoors but are minutes from the hustle and bustle. I surprised myself and walked round about ¾ of the park and it feels like a movie set. You walk a little further and then you recognize something form a movie or TV show. I would love to come back in the summer one time with friends and just spend all day there, maybe have a picnic and couple of cheeky beers. I was tempted to have a horse and cart ride but it was too expensive and not very romantic since am aloneJ I finally bought by pretzel on the street and was disappointed. I decided not to get a bike as I never realized that bikes are only allowed on the main road part so that's not fun.
On my way back hostel I made an excellent discovery, I was wandering around and wanted to buy some fruit. As all the ship people will understand I have not had proper fruit in 5 months. The apple I bought was so good, I forgot what a real apple tastes like. My discovery was this supermarket, I cannot remember its name, all I know is Marks and Sparks better up there game. This place had the nicest food and you could fill your belly just going round all the stands giving you tasters of what is in store.
Today I took a stroll through Central Park where I had breakfast as the sun was out and I was actually too warm in my jacket. So all you people that were laughing at me the weather has been chilly but sunny. I went on the sex in the city tour which was fun to see all the places where it was filmed, also nice to see the city without having to walk everywhere.
I also went up the 'Top of the rocks' I choose that instead of the Empire State building. I got some really cool photos of Manhattan. I managed to get someone to take my photo. It has been frustrating as I do like to pose for photos as everyone knows. So unfortunately there are no photos with my signature pose from this vacation.
