Day 1 Granada: I survived the plane rides, and even made friends with a professor at the University of Granada. He helped me collect my baggage and shared my taxi- he was familiar with hostal atenas and was going very near there. He walked my suitcases to the door and even paid my cab fare. I now have a solid contact for any academic/cultural issues.
I had breakfast at a local cafe with yummy coffee. Apparently cafe con leche (an espresso and milk combo) is the traditional choice for breakfast, delicious partnered with a sugared croissant and jam.
I have friends who are better at reading maps than I am, which helps a lot because I am not familiar with the city at all so far. It seems having a map doesn´t really matter, very few streets have street signs (or many stop lights) and the locals don´t even know street names. Walking is a little scary because of the narrow streets and heavy vespa/motorcycle traffic. There aren´t many nice drivers here.
I must be off for now, I´ll have more updates and more photos when I can use my own computer. Internet cafes are rather strange. (not so much a cafe, but a vending machine and some computers.)
Much love.
