The Jeepney is a popular transport in Cebu- they were originally made from U.S. Military jeeps left over from World War Two. They comes in many different design today. They costs 8 peso which is about 1p! They don't have any Jeepney stops like the bus stops in the UK but all you have to do is flag when you want to get on and then tapped your coin on the rail when you wants to get off! I got very excited I when I tapped the rail with my coin at the first time! The disadvantage of Jeepney is they're always overcrowded where you have to sit on Filipinos lap if there is no seat- yes even the stranger!
The traffic system- what can i say about them!? They are absolutely terrible! The noisy of cars, motorcycle, tricycle, Jeepney, and people! There is constantly beeping by the road users to let everyone know you're there. Road rules means nothing to them even the zebra crossing- id normally have to run across the road with my hand up in the air to give them a stop sign. They all jammed into one line - sometimes there is three vehicles in one! People even sells good in the middle of roads and at one point there was a group of young children walked past each cars begging for money and if they don't get it they will banging your vehicle with a bag of coins and shouting til they get what they wants!
The smell is full of smokes from the food markets on the side of road - normally they sells chicken and pork. The weather is very humidity with the average temperature of 30c -the Filipinos said it is a cold month!
The Filipinos are often very friendly, polite, and straightforward! One of them
wrote "pretty fat" on one of our group activity session where everyone have to write positive things about each other- at first I thought it was rude but then I found out it means a good thing cos I'm a "wealthy" person.
The food- just wow! Rice, rice, rice and king of rice is everywhere even McDonald's and KFC! They normally comes with chicken or pork and vegetable. They also have very strange food which includes tree worms, lizard, animals organs, and balut. I was encouraged to try a balut - It is a developing duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. It tasted like an egg but I swear to god I could felt "crunch" when I chewed them and I don't know whether if it's a eggshell or beak! It also smells disgusting and very jelly ish.
They also serve a soup what I've never never never ever heard of! A soup 5- they're made with cows balls and c*** ! Apparently they lasts mens organsm longer!
I could waffle on but I'll save the space for next blogging so watch this space ....Bye for now :-p
