Since our socialising budget have been cut by VSO due to low budgeting- we've decided to save up and pay for our own socialising activity out of our pocket money. We agreed to go to Kawasan Falls, one of famous landmark, the cost of trip was 350peso each (about £4.50) which includes coach trip, entrance fee, raft hire, and picnic area.
The coach journey was brutal, there is no air con, crowded, and no rules on the limited capacity of the coach! Local people constantly hops in and off trying to sell things such as pork crackers, rice, water and papers, they would tap you even if you're asleep or give you a long hard cold stares as if they're trying to give you a hint to buy their stuff. The heat was also a battle of survival in the coach on tiny chair which is smaller than me. The duration was about 3/4 hours drive southwest of Cebu city, zigzags up and down the mountains, and the safety of roads was horrendous!
However, we've survived our journey to the destination!
Kawasan falls in Badian, the most popular falls in Philippines, has fresh, clean and really bluish cold water. It’s one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Cebu. One thing I liked about the place is its cleanliness. People there really protect their tourist spot so you will not see a single trash in the place! The waterfall was breathtaking- it took me a while to finally take my eyes away from it and get changed into my swimwear before dipping into freezing water. The weather was hot so you could imagine my relieves once I got into the water and for first time in 5 weeks I was actually chilled instead of feeling hot and sweaty! The "water massage" is also one of tourists popular thing to do, they get on a bamboo raft and the workers would guide you to the waterfalls and give you the experience of waterfall massage. It looks fun and easy from the river bank but it's not so easy once you get on it- of course I'm going to tell you why! We all have to sit down on the bamboo raft in group of 20 (uk and Filipinos volunteers) getting whisked away towards the small waterfall to get our first experience, once we got under it oh my god it really does hit you so hard on your head and back so yeah it was painful! Of course I was laughing all along seeing others reaction, one of the jumped up and slipped, one of them tried to jump off the raft and one of them was screaming viciously! We realised we haven't been to the big waterfall yet and I really did wanted to get off before going under it but no one of my friend forced me to stay and kept telling me I'll be fine! I didn't know whether to cry or laugh when I watched others get off the raft while we are floating towards the bigger waterfall. The workers suddenly yelling us to get in partner and sit up with our legs crossed and crossed our arms back to back- I thought for a second, how am I suppose to protect my head, so yeah I did panic a little there and it was too late we got under it, it literally hits me so hard to the point where I thought I was going to passed out and struggled to breath but of course we wasn't under it for that long-luckily! The experience was unreal, it was worth it having a go but of course I wouldn't go under the waterfall again, once is enough!
Later that day we went to the nearby beach for a little chill time before heading back to the city. The day overall was good- the relationship between Filipino and UK are slowly developing. :-)
