I soon realized that no journey carries one far unless, as it extends into the world around us, it goes an equal distance into the world within. ~Lillian Smith
So today was a pretty easy going day! I spent most of my time in class before going shopping during my lunch break. I got some basic grocery items and found neat little stores right near the school that I will totally be visiting when I have more time (maybe next week). I finally have a little bag for my groceries and it was fun to get to carry it around and actually use it. I have totally fallen in love with fresh strawberries. I eat about a container a week and they are soooo good.
But today I was determined to get to the Eiffel Tower after classes and after our group meeting at 5:30. So... I went out to try to find someone to go with me because I really didn't want to go out alone at all! Lucky for me I ran into Dr. Broad and his wife and they agreed to go with me! So we all went our seperate ways for dinner and met back and headed out! I was really grateful for the company and really enjoyed talking with Dr. Broad and his wife, they've traveled all over and he really had some great advice about getting to see the world.
Dr. Broad talked about the JET program which is where students go to teach English to Japanese students for a year. I've looked at the program and it just seems like such a wonderful experience... but being away for home for that long would be so hard...I am a major home body in that I want to always be around the people I love and be able to get to see and talk to them whenever I want. I cannot wait to get to give Mom a HUGE HUG, and one to Dustin, Dad and all my friends that I'm missing.
Getting to the Eiffel Tower was a very nice walk a few blocks, with the tower slowly growing in front of us. It was MASSIVE. We got in trouble when we tried to get a picture leaning on one of the legs, a cop told us to get down, so oops! But it was really a lot of fun getting to learn about new people and experience new places. The tower was amazing but it seems almost so touristy it doesn't have the same appeal as some of the other things. It's so loud, and I much prefer the quieter voices of some of the smaller monuments.
Well tomorrow I hope to get some shopping and exploring done on our field trip! So I'm going to go finish up some homework and head to bed!
Bon Soir!
