Greetings!
It's been another busy couple of weeks...
Dearborn, MI flew by. We were able to take a day and go to the the Henry Ford Museum / Greenfield Village. Greenfield Village is fascinating. "...like stepping into an 80-acre time machine." It's full of authentic historic structures - famous homes, courthouses, school buildings, etc. In some of them you find actors reinacting the people/time periods. Growning up with things like Plymouth Plantation and Williamsburg I am a sucker for these kinds of places. The museum has cars (as expected) such as Rosa Park's bus, the bus in which Kennedy was shot...but it's overall purpose is to celebrate the innovations and progress of Americans over the years. Some of my favorite exhibits... "Automobile in American Life" about how cars have refashioned America's way of life... "Heroes of the Sky" starting back in 1903 when the sky was a new frontier... "With Liberty and Justice for All" about the evolution of American freedom (everything from slavery to women's rights). I could spend days in places like these. Not a whole lot more to say about Dearborn...
From there we flew to Pittsburgh, PA. Now, we had 1 day of shows in Johnstown, PA then had 3 days off before a weekend of shows in Pittsburgh. We wanted to spend the week IN Pittsburgh. However, we hit the week of the G20 Summit...meaning the city was a mess and there were no hotel rooms to be had. Instead, we drove the 2 hours out to Johnstown, performed there for a day, then proceded to have 3 days off in that bustling metropolis. We actually had a great time. It forced us to relax, which none of us has done in a long time. We went shopping and found incredible steals at the local Goodwill. Went to the movies. A whole lot of nothing and it was fantastic.
The weekend was spent in Pittsburgh. We had back-to-back doubles but I had the best weekend because my mom came to visit! Got in dinner between shows Saturday night with Linda & Julianne Austin (family friends). After the show we walked around the downtown where we caught the end of the Pirate's game and watched fireworks over the river. It was pretty magical. Spent the night at her hotel then had an incredible brunch Sunday morning (at Six Penn Kitchen which I HIGHLY recommend - http://www.sixpennkitchen.com/ ) before heading into another double-day. I have to say...these Pittsburgh audiences were fantastic. You never know with this show when it plays outside the midwest how it will be received. Pittsburgh really got the show AND we sold it out every one. Thank you Pittsburgh!
On to Minot, ND...this should be an intersting week...Hostfest, here we come! http://www.hostfest.com/
Enjoy!
