Greetings!
Well, we've made it to Sparks, NV... PHEW!! FInally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It was rough saying goodbye to George, our bus driver, but we were not at all sad to say goodbye to the bus. We're now all in our own rooms (miss you, Lindsay!). I have a great one with a king size bed, vanity, couch and great view...well, ok, I look out on obscenely ugly traintracks...but beyond the traintracks are the mountains and they are gorgeous. THIS I could get used to.
Living in a casino is quite another. I've done it before (with Nunsense) but we weren't allowed to gamble and there was no smoking there. The smoking...it is terrible. I mean, terrible. And there is no getting away from it. The rooms are smoke-free, but unless you hide away in your room or leave the casino, you are stuck. The theater gets particularly bad. There is no ventillation. This was a holiday weekend, and Saturday was a mob scene...the smoke got so bad a number of us barely got through the second show (we had a 4 show weekend...). Thank god the holiday crowds have cleared out and breathing is a little more managable.
The theater...it is something else. It is tiny. We have almost no wing space, but we're using most of our set pieces, so we're climbing all over each other. I feel so terrible for our tech guys, trying to navigate all of this scenery. The dressing rooms are limited...they've put 5 of us in a room probably meant for 1. Lindsay and I have counter space, but the poor Trio each get a lounge chair. Do your make-up and hair before getting there!!! Now the house...the space is meant for cabaret acts/concerts, so the seating is all tables/banquettes and they have tables smack up against the stage. I mean, they are right there in front of us. Cocktail waitresses walk around throughtout the whole show...I keep thinking it's people getting up to gamble, but it's just drink orders walking around. Every now and then you can hear the clinking of slot machines, and the other night we had such a monstrous storm we could hear the thunder and the rain (that never happens in a casino).
Needless to say, this is an experience! We have 4 shows left to go, flying out on Saturday. It has been quite the ride. Who knows what could happen in the next 4 days...Went to downtown Reno tonight. A great microbrewery, a some fun casinos, but not a whole lot to do other than gamble. Right now I'm pretty much just on the countdown to head home.
And for those of you who either couldn't see the show, or saw a cut version, I've put up production photos so you have a better idea of this show.
Enjoy!
