Venice, and Treviso, both amazing, both fine towns. I spent the day in Venice the other day and was thinking man his is neat. The canals, gondolas, buildings, tourists… there everywhere. Venice really is an amazing place though as you walk through the lovely streets that seem to widen then shrink from block to block you really get this sense that Venice has something special to offer. I was able to find that something special as the sun went down. The gorgeous sunset was amazing and I took loads of pictures.
Treviso, is also a great little town with more of its own style of charm. It is an old medieval town created within the confines of castle walls. I walked through the town walls and on top of them in this great park with amazing fall colors. Today, I will go with my amazing hosts Andrea, Lory, and their son Rocco to a chestnut festival in a small village outside of town. Treviso, has also shown me more of the amazing Italian hospitality as well with some excellent home cooked meals and family dinners. Marco my first host in Treviso cooked a great lunch and his mama made an excellent dinner when I arrived. Then we went to the local carnival and had an excellent time seeing this cute little festival.
I was in Bologna for 4 nights as well with a totally cool host Diletta whom celebrated her B-day while I was there. She was loads of fun and a total nerd… it was great we played video games and watched movies… good times. One interesting cultural clash I ran into was that in some cases in Italy, like with Diletta, the person having the birthday will pay for the meal of their guests. I found it hard to swallow personally. She was hosting me and was so nice and I did not have an opportunity to do anything nice for her yet. Then came her B-day and she pays for the dinner of me and her friends. It was odd for me and something different, but it is very normal and accepted in Italy. Very interesting culture that you would not see or know about without good old couchsurfing.
I make my way for what should be an excellent time in Crevalcore, where I will have a host who has just finished her year long trip.
Ciao
Kevin
PS I am trying to eat more because I only have one more notch in the belt before I have to drill a new hole.
