Today I am leaving Oxford! Last night was really fun...but I am sad to leave everyone leave Oxford!
The exam yesterday went pretty well...the exam was much harder than the exam on Thursday...but I stayed up really late on Thursday night to cram it all in. After the exam on Friday it was time for a nap! A group of us went out to eat for lunch. Next it was time to finally start packing. Joni and I had accumlated so much stuff in our rooms!!
Almost all of the Nebraska students celebrated the end to the exams by going to happy hour at our favorite cocktail bar, Duke of Cambridge. After a couple martinis we headed back to the college for the farewell activities.
The theatre students prepared a funny, "Nebraska at Oxford" version of A Midsummer's Nights Dream. The play starred our professors and several of the Nebraska students. It was soooo funny and we all enjoyed it! The play made fun of the professors, a few of the students, the England flooding, E coli scare, class lectures, and more! After the play we settled down for our last meal at Jesus College. It was a a good meal to end on (lately we have been tired of the same things!) The college also surprised us and prepared the potatoes differently! :)
After dinner the Program Director, Dr. Holmes (or as Horsewood calls him, Martin Timothy Samual) gave many thank yous to the people who help make this program possible at Nebraska and at Oxford. This year is the 19th year of Nebraska at Oxford and they are starting to plan a 20 year reunion in September 2008 in Nebraska.
Dr. Holmes presented each student with a certificate from the program. After our little "graduation ceremony" the Oxford student assistants recited a poem that they wrote about us. The poem summed up our time at Oxford and it was really good! Most of us laughed until we cried!
Finally, after the banquet and everything the professors and Nebraska students went to the nearby pub, The Turl. Everyone said their goodbyes and hung out at the pub all night. We got to talk to the professors and the student assistants for the last time and we all talked about our return flights home. We also started planning our first "Nebraska at Oxford 2007" reunion. We're planning on having house parties or meeting downtown so that we can all hang out back in Lincoln.
Corey, Morgan, Ryan, and a group of about 10 more Nebraska students got on the 2:00 am bus to go to London. Right now they are on their flight back to Nebraska! It was so sad to say goodbye to everyone! Nebraska people have been leaving about every hour to catch a different bus to London. Some people are traveling more, some are going home.
Traveling around Europe and studying at Oxford University was definately the TIME OF MY LIFE! Before I left I was so sad to leave everyone and miss out on my normal summer stuff in Nebraska...but after traveling and becoming friends with so many more people at Oxford I am glad that I decided to come! When else do you have the opportunity to become friends with 70 people - people that you probably would have never even talked to before - at OXFORD UNIVERSITY in ENGLAND!?! We kinda compared the sitauation to the MTV show The Real World...70 (somewhat) strangers meet in Oxford...our mission was to finish the classes...and have fun! We got to experience sooo many new things here!
So, thank you so much to everyone for posts on my blog, for the letters, cards, care packages, money, and thanks for actually reading my blog! I hope that you have enjoyed it! :) It was fun to share everything with you guys!
It is 4:00 am in Nebraska now...and I should be at the Omaha airport around 9:30 pm. So, I will some familiar faces in about 17 hours! :)
See you soon! Thanks!
Love, Kelly
