Hey! I have not blogged since Tuesday!
Tuesday night we attempted to add more pubs to our completed list...I think we made it to only 6. One of the pubs we were at was where J.R. Tolken (or whatever his name is) wrote the Lord of the Rings. Kim, tell Aaron that!
Wednesday we went to the horse races at Kempton Park in London. All the Nebraska people got very dressed up and we looked good! When we got there I made a "placepot" bet on the 6 races. I spent £4 and lots it all. Ha. I don't know very much about racing! We were at the races for about 4 or 5 hours...eating, drinking, sitting on the grass. Fun time. We got back to Oxford around midnight.
Thursday we had class in the morning and then got on a bus to the London-Heathrow airport. We were pretty early for our flight, so we ate lunch and wasted time at the airport. The flight to Dublin, Ireland was very short! When we arrived at the airport we took a bus to Dublin City University!
In the entire planning process of flights/hotels/transportation, we had a lot of problems trying to find a place to stay at in Dublin. Turns out...the only thing that could accomodate about 20 Nebraska students was the Dublin City University! We had a few problems finding the campus...we got off the bus a little too early and had to walk a long way with our backpacks on. Finally we arrived there and settled in! The rooms were very nice...there were 5 people in each "apartment" and each person had their own individual room with a bathroom and a shower. Also in our apartment was a common room with a full fridge, freezer, toaster, microwave, and oven!
After we unpacked our bags we headed to the nearest grocery store and stocked up on beer, wine, frozen pizzas, and breakfast foods. Corey bought a case of Coors Light (which we thought was on sale) for 45 euros...or about $60. Ridiculous! We walked back to our rooms (Corey's arms were ready to fall off from carrying the beer!) and we started making pizzas. Ryan bought some cards so were we feeling like we were back home!
The other Nebraska group of about 10 people arrived around midnight. They joined out little party and made plans for Friday.
Friday morning we slept in! All the Nebraska people met at the Guiness Brewery at 1:00 pm. We, once again, got off at the wrong bus stop and ended up walking for about 45 minutes. Finally we got to the brewery and got in line to buy tickets. The factory was really cool! I have never been to a brewery before so it was fun. I don't like Guiness...but when you're in Dublin you have to visit it!
There was a taste testing area at the brewery so we tested their newest beer, The North Star. The samples were alright...definately was not our favorite beer! Ryan, Morgan, Corey and I stopped at the restaurant at the brewery and had lunch. Ryan and Corey had beef stew and Morgan and I had salads. Then we went to the "Gravity Bar", which was at the very top floor of the factory. At the Gravity Bar we got a free pint of Guiness. Ewwww. I'm not sure if any of you have had Guiness, but it is hard to drink!
Of course, the last stop at the factory is the gift store. Corey, Morgan and Ryan bought a lot of souveniers. Some of the other Nebraska kids decided to go to the Jameson Whiskey Factory and we decided to go shopping in Dublin. The souvenier shops in Dublin are so awesome! Tonnns of Irish green stuff (I'll probably have to buy a stupid hat to wear for theme parties!) After shopping for awhile we went back to DCU.
We tried ordering Chinese or pizza delivery, but we couldn't figure out how to make phone calls in our room. So, once again, we made pizzas. We had another little party in our room...very fun!
Saturday morning we woke up around 7 and took the bus downtown. We met up with all the Nebraska kids in Dublin and went on a tour of Ireland. The tour was from 9-5 and we saw a lof of the countryside of Ireland. The tour was sooo worth it. It cost 24 euros...we stopped about 6 times for pictures. We also stopped for coffee, lunch, and a walking tour of a couple lakes. I got a ton of great pictures from it. When we were traveling we had to stop because there were people filming stuff for the next James Bond movie. Cool! The tour went to Wicklow and Avoca...very pretty!
After the tour we went back to DCU and got ready for the night. We headed to downtown Dublin and went to the Temple Bar. The bar was totally packed so we decided to leave! Dublin has a "bank holiday" on Monday so there were a ton of locals out. We stopped at a huge club next, and that was packed too. Finally we ended up going to the Brazen Head, which is the oldest pub in Dublin. The pub was full of locals.
Today we are just wasting time around Dublin until our flight. It has been raining a ton here...so it was really nice to stay inside and waste time on the internet today (I'm at an internet cafe right now). We are going to do some shopping this afternoon and then eat dinner and then our flight leaves at 9:15 pm. We should be back to Oxford around midnight.
How was your weekend!?! What did you do!?! Only 13 more days to go!
