Hello Nebraska!
Today was the last day of lectures for both of my classes here at Oxford! Yay!
Saturday was a lazy day for us! We watched movies on Joni's laptop and napped in the afternoon. Saturday night a group of us went to the restaurant Old Orleans (lots of American food) for supper and then we played cards in our room that night.
Sunday was our pub crawl day! :) Joni, Morgan, Phillip, and I set out after lunch for the pubs. We just drank half pints at each pub and we made it to about 8 pubs that day. We were hoping for a better performance...but the beers filled us up fast! After a supper break we went back out with a big group to one of our favorite bars, The Goose. Drinks are cheap there so it is our favorite!
Monday was filled with lots of lectures! We had both classes in the morning like regular followed by lunch. Next I really needed a nap (stayed up too late the night before!) and then I went running in the University Park. I think that I probably lost like 5 pounds while traveling around Europe because we only ate one big meal a day and I had to carry around my super heavy backpack! But, since arriving at Oxford we eat 2 big meals a day full of meat and potatoes...and we have rolls and butter at every meal...and we drink beer (not light beer!). So...please be considerate of our looks when we return from the UK! :) But anyways, that's why I went running.
At 5:00 we had to attend a debate about the new Prime Minister Gordan Brown. The debate was interesting...okay it was really boring... Next it was dinner time (bread, butter, pork, potatoes, green beans, dessert) and then we had to go to a review session for the International Economics class (that is the more boring of the two classes). Dr. Horsewood intimidated all of us! He explained the exam more and how difficult it would be...I hope that it is not as challenging as he made it sound.
After the review session Joni, Corey and I went to the grocery store and got some "study snacks" - Dorotios, cookies, sweets. Hopefully that will motivate us to study later!
This morning we had our final lectures. After classes Ryan, Morgan, Joni and I went to Pizza Hut and had the buffet! So good! The meals at Jesus College have worsened over the last 4 weeks, and we are just tired of meat and potatoes all the time. So, hint hint, if you are cooking something for me when I get home please don't make any potatoes! :)
This afternoon I am planning on studying for Dr. Holmes' class, the Policital Economy of Great Britain since 1945. That exam is on Thursday morning and Dr. Horsewood's exam is on Friday morning. We do not have classes at all tomorow, so I will be studying a lot then, too.
Also while I am busy studying I need to start packing up for the trip home! :) I am pretty positive that my large suitcase will be over the 50 pound weight limit...so I'll have to pay the extra charge. I'm sure that the extra charge is still probably cheaper than mailing things home.
Speaking of mailing, the postal service here is really crappy! Today I got two letters, one that had been mailed on July 25 and one that had been mailed on August 9. I'm not sure how that happened!?!
When we were in class on Monday morning our professor told us about global warming and about how protestors are planning to protest at the London Heathrow airport this week and weekend. They are protesting at the airport because they want air travel to be reduced to help reduce global warming. Of course, I will be flying out of Heathrow airport on Saturday afternoon. I have been reading lots of articles about this online and it seems that the protestors have no intentions to harm anyone or to distupt the air travel...they simply just want to protest. So, I really, really hope that we will still be flying home safely on Saturday!!!
Joni, Derek, and I have a flight leaving London Heathrow at 3:45 pm on Saturday (9:45 am your time). We have to be out of our college at 9 am (3 am NE time) and we are taking a bus to London at 11:00 am. So, we have a couple hours that morning to wait around Oxford until our bus leaves. I am scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 6:21 pm and then in Omaha at 9:28 pm. We have a 1 hour 40 minute layover in Chicago - so hopefully that will be enough time to pick up our luggage, go through customs, and board the next flight.
Anyways...Oxford has been so much fun! I can't wait to show all the pictures and everything! :) I'm so excited to see you all!!! Thanks for all the cards and messages lately...sometimes I check my email too much everyday :)
Miss you and love you!
Kelly
