Kate's Chronicles
This week has seen me being quite the social butterfly in between my teaching schedule. Started off on Easter Sunday having lunch with my wonderful friend Christy. Being American and Australian we felt that we had to celebrate Easter somehow even though China does not celebrate - hence not an easter egg or easter bunny to be found anywhere is this big city.
We walking for miles (with me in new shoes...oh the blisters!!), found a bottle of half decent Chinese red wine and ended up having lunch at this little hole in the wall restaurant which Christy had tried before. I'm not sure I could find it again on my own but it was definitely worth the effort. Only thing was that Christy forgot I don't eat spicy food and there was chilli everywhere. Despite me sweating profusely and gulping down the wine I have to say the food was fantastic. My lips were numb afterwards...that's how hot it was!!! Finished off the day going for a massage so went home feeling nice and relaxed for Easter.
Wednesday night saw me out to dinner with my dear friends Ming and Ray Harvey who were visiting Nanjing all the way from Hobart. It was wonderful to catch up with all the news from home and to enjoy a wonderful dinner with no spices this time!! Went to a delightful Chinese restaurant not far from where I live and Ming ordered the greatest variety of dishes.....enough for an army or 2 but we certainly made a big dent in them!!
Friday night saw me dining out yet again. This time it was with my fellow Aussie teacher Shirl and her family/friends who are over here from Brisbane. Went European this time at Studio 21 in Nanjing and had a delightful night getting to know new friends. With a mix of Aussie and Irish humour I knoew we were in for a fun night! Good food, good company, good atmosphere...what else could one want???
Now the weekend is here and I am debating what to do. Talked to my wonderful son tonight on Skype and am now twiddling my thumbs...... Bit sick of dining out so am thinking of testing out my Chinese skills and heading out of town...wish me luck!!
