Yesterday I survived the 3 hour bus ride from hell. The most rickety, bumpy bus i have ever experienced! sick-free tho so that is always a bonus. Travellingby bus is really good because you get to go through all the small little villages that you would never get to see. I've seen the smallest housing, some incredibly poor areas but everyone seems so happy still. And the amount of groups of boys that we pass who are intensley playing cricket is unreal!
I still felt pretty ill yesterday and didn't eat, but in the afternoon we went to Pushkar Lake. Pushkar is a really quiet, calm religious town. Alcohol, eggs and meat are completely banned from being anywhere within the town. We went to the lake for a religious service where a Hindu priest made us repeat vows, but a red dot on our foreheads which rice was then stuck to, followed by us holding a plate each of red, yellow, rice, sugar and flowers, each representing blood, relationships, family, good health and something else (oops!). at thee nd we threw it all into the holy lake. It all is meant to mean that this then gives us good karma individually but we also prayed for our families. It is a service that they take very seriously and was amazing to be a part of it. We were then given a red and yellow band to wear, our Pushkar Passport.
We found a restaurant that did really good english food! altho again i couldnt eat anything and i actually fell asleep at the table... how embarrassing. But today i feel a little better and woke up hungry for the first time in 3 days. Me and Claire went to get a pancake, but now i feel bad again. However, we have a camel ride this afternoon taking us up until sunset which i am determined not to miss.
Tomorrow we move on to Udaipur, a horrible 8 hour bus ride, my ipod is charged and i have lots of water... still loving India but if anyone from home knew how much i disliked Indian food before, please be sure that i now HATE the stuff with a passion, even just seeing someone else eat it makes me want to be sick. The hopes of me coming home with a new found love for Indian food have certainly be desroyed by Delhi Belly.
Despite this i love this country and so glad that we came here, plus many restaurants attempt some form of plain english or chinese food so i should be able to continue to eat!
Lots of love xxxx
