So we made it to India! And what a place to start... Delhi. After causing huge embarrassment to myself and Claire by trying to get my VERY heavy bag (18.6k) off the luggage conveyor belt we ventured outside and immediately overwhelmed by the amount of people. We had our lift arranged and were taken to our hostel by a taxi, OMG that was the most terrifying drive of my life! If anyone saw the recent Top Gear in India then i promise you it is EXACTLY like that!! Absolutely no concept of lanes, no limit on the amount of people that can be squeezed into a car (or on top of or hanging off the sides) and the horn seems to be used as a way of telling everyone that you are there, so constant beeping is all you here!! A crazy experience.
Our hostel was standard, as expected and something for ur to get used to! Me and Claire met a couple who are on our tour so after settling in we went for a walk just the 4 of us to see what was around the area... Thousands of Indian men and we were the only white people in sight, an experience i will never forget. And so the staring began, they don't hassle you they just stare at you, constantly. We were in quite a poor area so it was a massive eye opener. After nearly dying on crossing a number of roads (i think we'd have better luck at crossing the M25 on a Friday afternoon) we then found a park, still no other white people around. We then began to be followed by a group of children, they seemed sweet, kept saying hello. But we soon felt like the pied piper (is that the right name for him?!) Then groups of men started taking photos of us, its very surreal.
We eventually made it back to the hostel, met the rest of our tour group (15 of us) and a lovely leader called Ruby who is from northern India... i think. She took us for dinner, my first Indian meal in India. We managed to cross the roads a lot easier with her! I had a Chicken Lababdor, after being promised it wouldn't be spicy... it was.
Back at the hostel it was time for bed and an early rise of 4:30am, a time i haven't seen in years. So far... a bit in shock to say the least but ready for what this amazing country has to throw at me!
Family - always thinking of you xxx
