We flew from Mumbai to Goa. South India is instantly different to everywhere else we have seen, more chilled out and relaxed, the traffic is calmer, people smile more and there seems to be less begging, although a boy outside the airport with a Forest Gump style leg brace was sad to see.
It was our last night with the tour group and Ruby, ican't believe how quick 2 weeks has gone. We had dinner in Kamaki on Baga Road- the food is SO much better in the south- i actually like it!!! Much lighter and lots of fish on offer which is great after living off carbs for the last 2 weeks. We all had some drinks too, no tax on alcohol makes it extremely cheap :) However, there is some bad news as Goa has elections going on the government has banned all sales of alcohol after 11pm sop the bars totally close down. A guy called Kennedy, friends with our tour guide and who owns half of India it seems, including 2 Cafe Del Mar's in Goa, invited us to his farmhouse as hios bar closed. It was beautiful! There was an infinity swimming pool outside, 2 jacquzi's, loads of seating areas and even home made alcohol lol. Everyone had a laugh and couldnt resist jumping in the pool!
The beach is beautiful and warm sea but the men are pretty bad. Me and a friend went in the sea and all of a sudden were surrounded by Indian men, as a wave came over we were positively groped everywhere- horrendous experience. It wasn't until the end of the day when we were finally told that there is a seperate section of the sea for white people (mainly women) to go in. It's THAT bad. So we stayed to that part, there was always 2 lifeguards on hand who blew whistles at any men moving their way over to our section of the sea. When it got really bad there is a lifeguard in the sea on a jet ski or drives up and down keeping them back! Crazy. We are still being photographed all the time, i dont appreciate seeing men sneakily taking photos of me on the beach. However its something we seem to be getting used to, rightly or wrongly.
We said goodbye to amazing Ruby which was sad. We still stayed together, all 15 for our final meal which i think shows just how genuinely well we all got on together. Somehting Ruby said rarely happens.
Thanks for everything Ruby! You made this trip INCREDIBLE xxx
