Me and Claire flew to Kochi which is in the state of Kerela. Its a 2 hour flight but took us 11 hours in total from leaving Goa to landing in Kochi as we had a 5 hour stop over in Bangalore. We flew with Lauren and Mark from our tour so that was nice, sad to say bye to them. Me and Claire are official on our own and doing the whole travel thing- we can do it!
ALthough our first night was a bit of a disaster with lots of drunk Indian teenage boys coming back at about 5am (the drinking ban is not in Kerela) and banging on our door trying to get in. The next night we moved to a different floor. As we arrived at the hotel it poured with rain! I think we had both forgotten what rain looked like! Luckily it was only for the night so the next day wasn't spoilt. However as we stepped outside to explore Kochi we were hit with flashbacks of Delhi...
Later on we arranged a trip to Fort Kochi which was lovely, unfortunately the Jewish synagogue and Dutch Palace was closed becasue it was a Friday but we got to see the Chinese Fishing Nets- very impressive. These huge nets that are lowered into the sea by a pulley and need at least 4 men to operate. I like that they still use these traditional methods.
We then had dinner at beautiful restaurant with a candlelit jetty going out into the sea. I am in love with the Kerelan food. I had Sear fish wityh green Mango and Appam (which is like a savoury pancake). Lush! We also heard from a different group of guys that we met in Goa, Matt, Josh and Joe that they were heading down to the same place as us so we arranged to do the houseboat. Nice to be with people that you choose instead of randoms pot luck. The weather was very sticky hot and humid, not enjoyable if you cant jump in the sea.
Unfortunately on our las tmorning as we left there was a problem with proving that we had already paid- which we had done. We were going to be late for our train so things got a bit heated and the language barrier did not help. Safe to say i made my angry point and am dreading going back there as we have paid for a nother night there at the end of the whole trip in India... oops! We'll see how they greet us...
