Kat and Em's Travels
Wednesday 6th December continued
We really weren't impressed with our hostel! Fundamentally everything was ok, it was clean, the rooms were nice but the guy who ran it was nasty! He gave us what he called the 'midnight tour' which was him just pointing out the basics and he didn't even tell us the internet was free! Luckily Adam figured out how to get online without paying! We think he didn't care because we were only staying a night. Kat got so mad she wrote a horrible review about it online! He was rude and patronising, and it gets worse. Anyway that evening we played pool with the lads, got some pizza and beers in and taught the boys how to play shed. They became addicted to it, seriously, they wouldn't stop although it's hardly surprising. It's a good card game! Meanwhile Kat and I hogged the computers. Went to bed quite late, but I don't think this even added to why the guy didn't like us. We weren't even that noisy!
Thursday 7th December
Our 'friend' at the hostel told us we had to be out by 1pm, which we thought was ok as our bus wasn't until 6. But this also meant our luggage had to be out of the hostel too. Matt asked him about this and he said 'tough luck, you're a backpacker.' This hadn't happened to us before, every hostel has luggage storage! That morning we walked to the koala hospital through a forest of deafening crickets, never heard anything like it. The hospital was so sad. A lot of the koalas had been injured in forest fires and apparently the majority of koalas suffer from chlamydia. Dashed back to the hostel for lunch, then the loser took us to the bus station. He said 'here you are, now get out of my van.' I'm finding this quite amusing now I'm writing but it wasn't so funny at the time! We managed to leave our bags in an office until 4.30 and went for a wonder in the town. We sat by the river and played shed, again! And we saw some dolphins right there by the water's edge! That was cool. Then walked along the breakwall which people leave messages on. We were going to but we didn't have a tin of paint handy. Or a pen. Everyone managed to get a bit sunburnt. It was a really hot day so we all wanted to go for a pint but this was a bit of a problem with all our bags. I suggested as a joke that we should find a couple of shopping trollies to push our luggage around it. Matt thought this was great idea, it was a joke! So we found 2 and the lads pushed them back to the bus station. We loaded them up and kat and I pushed them through a car park and up a grass verge and to the Irish pub which was conveniently located right behind the station. We had a well deserved pint of Tooheys sitting outside the pub with our trolleys next to us like kids in a pushchair, ahh! They were cute trolleys! People were laughing and making comments, it was hilarious! Again we played cards although varying the games a bit this time and then we headed off for a kebab before getting on the bus to Sydney. On the way we played I Spy for quite a while, and the funniest moment was when Adam was sick! I thought he was just pretending to behind my head but no it was the real thing! Luckily it was in a bag. We couldn't stop taking the mick after that. We arrived in Sydney after midnight and completely shattered and checked into Wake Up which we'd heard so much about. We even payed more than we wanted to because people told us it was so good. It was pretty flashy as far as hostels go!
