Kat and Em's Travels
Sunday 10th December
We left our huge backpackers at the hostel and got the 9.18 train from Sydney to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. It took about 2 hours. We bought a 2 day trolley bus ticket so we could see everything in the area. Also tickets for various attractions in Scenic World. Walked trhrough the town to our hostel, was really nice. Dumped our stuff, changed into our hiking gear and caught the bus to Scenice World. Managed to get off at the wrong stop, going the wrong way is how we'll remember our Blue Mountains trip! Caught the scenic railway down the side of the cliff face. It's the steepest railway in the world, bit scary sitting at the front! When we got to the bottom we intended on going on a maximum of a 50 minute walk to the next attraction at the base of the cliff but somehow took the wrong path and it was only when we'd been walking an hour that we realised we were hiking in completely the wrong direction! Carried on until we reached The Giant Stairway. And it is what the name suggests. We ended up climbing us literally hundreds of stairs in the sweltering heat all the way up the mountain. It was like climbing Ayers Rock again! Most people were sensible and going down the stairs, only a couple more idiots going up! We reached Echo Point where there are great views of the Three Sisters rock formation. So tired at this point so got the bus to the Skyway where we went back over to Scenic World. The caught the cableway down the cliff where we saw Katoomba Falls. Big mistake again. Surely we shouldn't be walking upwards again but yes we were. We saw an old mine down there and then it was time to climb again! Ended up back at scenic world. Not that scenic if you ask me, I don't even know what it was. There was a shop and a cafe! Then went back to Katoomba. Chilled out, ate, watched Starskey and Hutch and slept. Was a long day!
Monday 11th December
Today we went over to Gordon Falls then did the Prince Henry Cliff Walk to the Leura Cascades which were really beautiful and worth the trek. We'd be more inclined to describe this walk as treacherous than any other we'd been on! Stopped in Katooba for lunch. Next it was Wentworth Falls. Afterwards attempted to walk to the train station but somehow went wrong again and walked down a massive hill. At the bottom we finally saw somebody so I asked him for directions and we were completely lost! I think he felt sorry for us cos we turned to walk back and 5 minutes later he came along in his car and offered us a lift cos it was far too hot. Thank the lord for that! We don't tend to just jump into cars with strangers but this time we didn't hesitate! Checked back into Wake Up when we got back to Sydney and moved into a huge 8 bed dorm. Now we could see why people liked this hostel so much! There were loads of Brummies staying there too, one even went to the same primary school as me and her sister was in my class! Went out for another cheap dinner. Then there was a huge storm, they seem to follow us!
