Costa Rica Day 10 Recollection
Today was a day of getting ourselves back into a routine of getting up early to head to the orphanage. First we must start our day with some scrambled eggs with ham and toast which tasted amazing! We then made sure we had everything and loaded onto the bus at 8:30 am. We arrived at the orphanage at around 9:15 and we had to change all of the roller heads to make sure no orange would mix with the green which took forever to do. Luckily we were productive and taped everything down and when the paint came, we started with the most difficult part which was the trim because it is very tedious and you have to be very precise when doing it. So our energy level in the group is perfect we are focused and are going really well until we realize we spent almost an hour just doing the trim. But it was no biggy because after it was done, we painted the front and back walls of the house in maybe 30 mins and we then moved on to the other side walls which took longer because they had to plaster the walls. The plaster wasn't dry and it still needed to be sanded but after much effort we persevered and tackled the first coat of the house. We were not the last group finished which is nice because then you don't have people looking over you and saying "why aren't you done?" "Your team is slow" and things like that which was said when we were last on the first house. But anyway, we then cleaned up and went to play with the children so Luis organized a soccer game and it was all good until a boy threw a ball at Mr. Sangster and Mr. Sangster sternly told him not to do that. The boy picked up a dog and was pulling on its ears and limbs which is totally in humane but we kind of accepted that he has a mental issue that is unknown because he knows what he's doing and he thinks he's being funny which isn't very cool. But we loved to play another game which was duck duck goose which was so much fun because the children were yelling and rooting for their friends to beat us and it was just so fun. I eventually went and played with the kids my age who were juggling the soccer ball with their feet and doing awesome tricks that I couldn't imagine of doing but I had a few defining tricks which was cool! The one kid could kick it up catch it in this knees jump up and juggle the ball again which is ridiculous. We finally had to go so we said good bye and boarded the bus and came home where we hung out until our supper was ready. It consisted of green beans that tasted like eggs and cauliflower which was surprisingly good and now we are just hanging out until evening prayer and reflection. Then we are off to bed because tomorrow is gonna be another hard day of work.
