Glamorama: London
For the past few days, I've been doing a lot of shopping. We went on a tour with Basia of the area around the London College of Fashion. This area is the main drag of stores, and if you go down the back streets you'll find several amazing, smaller stores. The stores are having big sales right now, but things on sale are still average price in the US, if not more. My favorite store is Liberty, a beautiful, designer department store with a vibrant flowershop in the entrance, and hangbags to die for on the first floor. The entire building is made out of the remains of one Tudor ship. This place could get me in trouble, I should probably stay away.
Right behind Liberty is Carnaby Street, which was the center of fashion and music in the 60s. There are bright lights hanging down, and the street is pedestrian only, filled with stores and pubs. Allison and I walked around, hitting all of the vintage places and a particulary unique store called Harriet's Muse, in which we wanted everything they sold. We also bought stuff at a cute store called Lazy Loaf, and I had her take some pictures of the decorated wall. They'll be up soon, they are on Allison's camera.
Unfortunately, we were so indisicive about where we were going that night that we ended up leaving at 11:30, after the pubs had closed. We went to Kavanaugh's, again, and I really don't like it there because it's just a lame hotel bar/pub. It was crowded, but everyone looked middle-aged. I really want to go to boujis, which is also just down the street from us. It's an exclusive lounge, and Prince William hangs out there sometimes. We can only get in if we look amazing and go on a weekday night. I'm confident that I'll make it past the door.
Today, we went to Camden Market in Camden town, pretty early in the morning. Camden Market is more of an alternative market, with some punk/goth clothing, some hippie/drug culture clothing, and a lot of cool, inexpensive items. I found several treasures, including pretty Indian earrings, a corset top for 5 pounds, and African salad tongs made of wood with giraffes as the handles. The variety of beautiful, handmade items is insane, but there is a lot of junk at the beginning that you have to wade through.
After that, we went on a two hour coach tour of London. The majority of us fell asleep on the tour from waking up so early. It was also really warm and cozy in the bus. I took a few pictures, but they're kinda blurry since the bus was stopping and starting again. We drove all over Central London and crossed the Thames (which isn't wide at all!!) But I missed a lot of it...
Tonight I'm going to see Match Point, Woody Allen's new movie, appropriately set in London. And tomorrow, more London Collge of Fashion orientation. We'll be finding out the details of the Paris trip. That's all for now!
Love, Kali
