Glamorama: London
Sorry I haven't been writing lately, but I've mostly just been going to class and doing homework. We have so many projects to finish up, and even some to start for finals!! We've all been working very hard.
I went to see Kensington Palace on Friday with Allison and Julie. It is a beautiful palace on the edge of Hyde Park, very close to where I live. We didn't tour the palace since it was expensive to get in, but we did go to high tea at The Orangery, the palace's restaurant. Inside, it was white with high ceilings, orange trees, and yummy looking desserts. I had Darjeeling tea, which was really good, and the English tea of cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches and a slice of carrot cake.
Last night, Allison and I went to Soho, a trendy area near Picadilly Circus and Leicester Square. We went to Cafe Boheme, a dim pub that reminded me of something out of Paris. We also went to a fun lounge called Rush that had white leather couches and bright lights flashing throughout the rooms. We came back early though, so we could catch the last train home.
Today, I went to Harrod's. It is a huge department store carrying anything your heart could desire. They play classical music in the main atrium when you enter, and the music changes from room to room. The food halls were the best...they are filled with colorful and fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses (that room smelled a little weird) and ornate cakes and chocolates. I saw chocolates with very ornate detailing, and candy that came in all colors, including metallic silver and gold! I got a few Belgian truffles for myself, and some treats for my family. The Easter candy is so beautiful...the selection was overwhelming! There was also a seafood grill that smelled wonderful...I can't wait to have seafood when I get home!
I took a few pictures of the "Egyptian staircase" and we went downstairs to see the eerie memorial to Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed (Dodi's family owns Harrod's). It is a small fountain and has the wine glass Diana used that night in glass and also the ring Dodi gave her.
We then walked through all of the designer clothes and Spring collections. It's always cool to see things I've only seen in magazines in person. I'd already seen a lot of these clothes in Paris, though. I tried on some Gucci sunglasses...they're only 120 pounds...its almost my birthday...
I have a lot of work to do this weekend...we're going dancing tonight for Patty's birthday, and then we're going for Thai food to celebrate tomorrow night. On Monday, I plan on going back to the Victoria and Albert museum to see the new fashion exhibit. Until then, take care!
