No Go Again!! My mind was a mess lastnight and as of 4am there was no more sleeping for me - I tossed and turned, had crazy thoughts and couldnt stop the thought of all the foods I have to try here in Mexico!! After all my hard-work in Guatemala my monkey mind is coming back even stronger - not to be defeated I did my best to meditate and slow it down a little to get a little peace and after breakfast grabbed another hour or so of sleep. In the morning I chatted with Emilio for a while; he's a super interesting Spanish guy who has been travelling all around the world and even spent a year living in Australia. Emilio was keen to head to the mercado municipal so we made our way down there and it was even more crazy first thing in the morning; with more sellers, more craziness and excitement. I tried some tamales (chipolene) - a boiled corn cake with a special herb and it was really tasty. We wondered around trying fruits, avocados and anything else we could get our hands on. I ended up buying too many things again and then headed to my trusty chicken place to get my 1/4 chicken, salsa and tortillas for just over $1. Chicken and avocado tortillas with fresh lime squeezed over them are now my go to meal and will remind me of Mexico for years to come. In the afternoon I headed down to the tourist office to book my tour for Palenque and you wouldn't believe it but the teacher strike is still going and tommorow like the last 4 days it is impossible for tour buses to get through. This is a real pain and I have already spent 3 days waiting to go on this tour so I think I will just have to give it a miss. San Cristobal is great and all but I am already board, the weather is cold and I havnt had anyone to really hang-out with so better I head north to Oaxaca for the beach and some change of atmosphere!! In the evening I decided to head into the city centre and check out the live music that was happening and was glad I did with the first band up - a pretty decent reggae band. I had organized to meet a fellow Couchsurfer who is also travelling North through Mexico to see if we might join each other and travel a bit together. I met Carrie who coincidently had also been living in San Marcos when I was living there and she seemed really cool and hat similar plans to me for Mexico. The bands got even better and after the reggae band came this crazy solo guitarist guy who sang like an old school rock star and some many classic Michael Jackson and James Brown songs. One thing I noticed is that Mexicans don't really dance oh and that I am quite tall for Mexican standard haha. The last band to play was quiet famous; Jenny and the Mexicans and they literally tore the house down with this beautiful blond girl as the singer who broke every song down with her trumpet solos and kept the crowd enthralled by swing her hips and moving her body in sexual ways. By 11pm it had started to rain so I made my way back to the house whilst the rain wasn't too heavy; everyone was there so I hung-out chatting for a while before heading off to bed.
