Private Beach!! Today we had planned to go to an afternoon Temazcal - a traditional Mexican spiritual sauna of sorts. So the morning I did some more work on the hotels website and hung-out at the hostel with Virginia and Serena. Unfortunately we had to cancel the Temazcal but the hope is we can still go tommorow. Serena's mother had told me about a beautiful beach just around the corner from Puerto Angel so I took the opportunity to walk out and check the place out. The walk out in itself was interesting enough watching the locals go about their daily goings on; women carrying things to and fro, men working their lands with machetes, young men drinking beers in roadside cafes and kids playing. The beach was well hidden and barely had a tourist on it. I took the opportunity to go for a swim and was suprised to find I was stepping on coral within meters of entering the water. The temperature was perfect and I couldn't help but smile at the beauty of the place and the fact that my only company was a couple of dogs and a few fisherman and their families sitting on the beach watching the ocean. I could have sat there all day but the sun dropped and it was time to head up the hill and back to Puerto Angel. Around 6pm is the exciting time here in Mexico when the temperature drops and people come out of their houses - although this is very Spanish I notice it here in Mexico the most. When I was walking through town I met a lady who had some dried fish; so with my bad Spanish I managed to ask her if she had more to sell of which she did. A trek down an alley, across a flowing river and we were in her backyard looking at tables full of dried fish and a fresh tuna: filleted and ready for cooking. The tuna looked divine but decided to try the dried fish first as its how the locals eat it; (small yellowtail) 3 for 40 cents and who could complain. I dusted the fish with a little breadcrumbs and then fried the fish in coconut oil and it was absolutely perfect. With the addition of some avocado, tortillas and salad - I made myself fish tacos.
