Free Day!! With not much planned today I took it easy in the morning and had a very lazy start to the day. I walked around the town a little and sat at the wharf again watching the fisherman bring in fish after fish. The sun poked its head out so I took the chance to head to the beach get some sun and see if I could get some idea of what I want to do for next month. It came to me that I am happiest and most at ease when I am near the ocean, I don't handle cities well, I was raised near the ocean and I remember as a child the ocean provided so much happiness for me. Maybe my travels haven't been inline with my heart? Maybe I am a surfer that never learned to surf? And definitely everything I need to know the ocean will teach me. It is then that I must set myself a new goal and see if all that work at the ashram has paid off: I am going to learn to surf, or re-teach myself to surf. This is not to take up a new obsession or hobby but more to guide my travels and give them a new direction. I tend to want to go everywhere, visit everything without really listening to my heart - the wanting is of the ego I am sure but this new feeling with the connection to the sea is of the heart I am sure. This stretch of coastline provides some great places to surf so a perfect an opportunity as any to get back in the water and try surfing again. Today I helped Serena's Mum make lunch: Making a tomato, cucumber, carrot, dried Raisens, toasted nut salad covered in a sesame, soy sause, lime and honey dressing. Lunch time is so nice here; we all get together for a few hours, prepare food, share conversation and then sit and be thankful for food and each others company - I am sure one of the most important things in life that to many of us never get to do. There is a big front of the Gulf of Mexico that had been causing all the storms in the area and by around 4pm the front came in hard and the little town of Puerto Angel was hit by an almighty downpour of rain and thunderous lightening. Instead of hiding inside I grabbed an umbrella, chucked on my flip flops and went out in the madness and was so glad I did. I got soaked, looked at strangely by all the locals but had a blast wading through the puddles and watching the electronic storm over the bay - why did I ever stop enjoying these things?? In the evening the electronic storm and gave me a perfect opportunity with my own room to relax and watch a film.
