Zipolite Scoping!! I woke very early this morning and was very thankful for the roof fan that stopped me sweating my arse off all night. After having an early breakfast and doing my yoga I packed my things ready for a trip to Zipolite (the famous nudist beach). It took me nearly 45 minutes to get a collectivo (turns out I was looking for wrong type of vehicle) out to Zipolite. Zipolite is a small resort town with a population of under 1000 people and as its quiet season barely 30 people occupied the beach of 5km. I walked along the waters edge looking out hoping that the waves here were rideable and that this beach would be a good place to learn to surf. I checked out this beautiful hotel up on the hill with easily the best view of the beach, the owner Maria was lovely and gave me a complete tour of the hotel and then directed me up to the meditation area. The meditation area was set ontop of this hill on the other side of the headland and what a place with 360 views and complete solitude. The surf picked up and I imagined this could be a good place to stay for a few weeks but not to decide anything before visiting Mazunte and San Augustillino the next two beach towns further north. A walk through the town confirmed my initial thoughts of a completely dead town with 2-3 good places, a very overpriced grocery store and expensive surfboard rental. I did however find a nice cheap place to stay with a lovely French lady as the caretaker and a bunch of young people around. The waves didn't seem to last too long and as I sat in the beach I came to the conclusion that this isn't the right place - however certainly worth the day-trip to get this valuable info. I think when I travel I hope too much about a place and force myself to like it even when it offers little in the way of stimulus. The beach town I want to spend next few weeks must have 1. Good/consistent/uncrowded waves 2. Cheapish place to stay close to beach, with kitchen and wifi and possibly private room. 3. Medium sized town with variety of food, stores, other activities. 4. Availability of surfboards. Around 2:30pm I took a taxi collectivo back to Puerto Angel and joined Serena, her mother and daughter for our now daily mid-afternoon lunch. After lunch I went with Serena to her farm (just outside of town) and helped do some cleaning up and weeding in return for the accomodation and lunch she has been providing at the hotel. I got absolutely eaten alive by all the Mosquitos and couldn't help but think and worry a little about dengue (which is quiet prevalent here. The weather came in bad in the late afternoon so we headed back to the house where I took the rest of the evening to relax and was a little exhausted from my couple of hours of work.
