Puerto Angel!! The bus stopped constantly in the morning and by 6:50am we had reached our destination. Unfortunately it was cold and wet and people were not so friendly - informing us there were no collectivos to Puerto Angel and we would have to take an expensive taxi. Carrie doesn't speak any Spanish so I explained we would need to walk a little and hopefully find some more friendly people that would give us the right info. Sure enough we found some friendly people and they directed us to where we could find the collectivos headed to Puerto Angel. The collectivo ride out was about 20 minutes and it was quite dead with barely a person in sight. Arriving in the sleepy town of Puerto Angel it was obvious it was quiet season as the place was dead, we made our way around to Serena's (my CS Host) but when her mother answered the door she told us Serena was asleep and we would need to come back later. Sitting here waiting in the rain I am half tempted to keep going on towards the next couple of towns; Zipolite and Mazunte. When we went back to Serena's hotel we were met by Serena and her daughter: 'Serena junior' and her Mother. They actually turned out to be lovely and we had a nice morning chatting and drinking coffee. Sarina had baked this delicious gluten free organic cake using bean and chick pea flower, cacao, raspberries and other delicious bits and pieces - it was a real treat and both Carrie and I were starving so a nice late breakfast. Sarina is so nice and we chatted about the town, her family history, culture and food. We were invited to join the family for lunch at around 3pm (yes they eat lunch very late here). It was still raining a lot so we went out for a little walk with the umbrella but figured it would be better to wait until rain stopped. I did some meditation and yoga whilst waiting for 3pm which turned into later. The lunch was delicious with an assortment of vegetarian dishes including bean soup, vegetable ratatouille, avocado salad, black bean soup, tostadas (fried tortillas) and some tasty flor de Jamaica juice. It was nearlly 5pm when lunch finished so I headed down the beach to go for a walk and see a bit more of the town. There isn't much to the town but it does have a safe and friendly feel to it - I imagine that the two beaches to the North: Zipolite and Mazunte certainly won't have this feel. When the sun was going down I found a nice spot on the rocks to sit and watch the fisherman fishing and the sun disappear over the top of the hill that covers the west-end of the bay. As the sun fell the Mosquitos come out - I new there had to be something bad about this place. A walk through town at night and the place had come to full life with vendors selling ice creams, tortas, fried bananas and French crepes. I made my way back to the house and made a giant omelette to try and stock up on protein. I am feeling better and stronger now that I am eating meat again but am still having difficulty digesting meat and so have stuck to just eggs for last few days. Another interesting conversation with Serena and it was time for bed as tommorow we have an early start. Getting into bed I noticed the huge change in temperature from that of San Cristobal and spent most of the night sweating - without realizing there was a working roof fan in the room.
