We got a sneak peek into the Theatre in the heart of the city today. Our guide Gennaro knows the town Mayor and arranged a private tour for our group.
Its simply stunning, to be honest I didnt have my listening ears with me at the time the guide was speaking, so I missed a lot of the translation. Anyway its beautiful and old.
They were holding a performance of the Barber of Seville that night (at €180 a pop might I add, which lets be honest I would have paid if there were any tickets, just for the experience) The two local guides that took us through were great, both so excited to be meeting aussies. They were also accompanied by a german shepard named Argon. There is a long history with Argon and why he looks after the Theatro, which the guides explained with the passion and vigor.
His great grandfather was a guard dog for the theatre back in the day, and he was on site the night a fire broke out. He ended up saving the theatre from total distruction. What they have been doing ever since is breeding the family of dogs specifically to smell fires and notify the guards. He was so friendly and affectionate too. But he was a total poser, he looked a little like inspector rex.
Another unexpected but wonderful experience.

Cookie Bear Cookie says, "Hello Daddy! I am well and hope you are too. Nonna is taking very good care of me, but she makes me sleep with these other furry creatures, instead of her and Nonno. I can't understand it, and I hope you come back soon and put me back in your bed, OK?" Love from Your Cookie Bear "PS I saw the pictures of those Italian dogs on your blog and I hope you don't bring any of them home with you! Especially the dead ones lying on the pavement..."
