Today we visited the portside town of Agropoli.
Its Sacracen village built in the crusades. Its very high on the hill so they could keep an eye on approaching trouble. I hit my head twice because I wasnt looking where I was going. The little Italian man running the show saw both accidents and through it was very amusing, meanwhille Im on the floor writhing in pain while hes pointing out the giant on the floor. Hardy harr harr I say!
After visiting the tower, I walked the streets on the hill of this village. It was so beautiful. Its the Italy you see in the movies and read in books. Tiny shops, lots of old people sitting in the piazzas chatting away, beautiful buildings and lovely views.
The highlight was lunch! I went into a little shop, similar to a deli (b***** I cant remember the Italian name for it) and the little nonna behind the counter was gob smacked at me. She started at my feet and her eyes krept up my body slowly all the way to my face. Then she was laughing too. Which in turn made me laugh. It was reallty sweet. For lunch I had a punnet of fragola, HUGE fragola. For €1.20 a punnet. These strawberries were enormous, and the best I have ever tasted, nothing in Australia comes remotely close. I ate them on the terrace overlooking the ocean and it was wonderful. I bought another punnet for the trip don the hill, kissed the nonna on the cheek, said goodbye and headed for the bus.
Another wonderful day in Italia, I can definitely see why people fall in love with this country. Tomorrow we leave Salerno and head further south to Venosa. Im not sure what is in store, but it will be great.
Ciao
Giordano
