Today we travelled a short distance from our hotel in Milazzo on the beach, to the ferry port. Around 15 minutes. We were warned before leaving the port that the ferry will be delayed due to the weather.
We had to wait around 40 minutes for the ferry When the ride started there was nothing to worry about, we all put our noses to the sky and laughed at the Sicillians HAHAHA! We quickly learned why they waited, once we had past the protection of the heads in Milazzo, it became really choopy. Like rollercoaster choppy. I think they handed out hundreds of puke bags, there were people crying, it was bad. I was quite enjoying myself because each time there was a large wave the spray came over the side of the boat and drenched us (PS check out the size of the boat, its not a tug boat by any means). It reminded me of the rides my mum and I went on at movie world. Good Times!
Things calmed down once we arrived on Lipari. The hotel manager met us at the warf, and took our bags by car to the hotel and we walked.
Its a really beautiful spot here, quite cool at the moment. I broke out (for the first time so far) my cardy and my scarf. We walked past all the shops and cafes into a piazzetta, then on to the hotel, which has an amazing view of the beach (check out the pics with the chairs in them looking at the ocean, thats where I am eating breakfast tomorrow)
I went for a BIG walk with a couple of the guys. We window shopped and then got a coffee and a gelato. Because we arrived at lunch time all of the shops were closed, all but the tacky souvenier shops of course. Once you have been into one or two of these you know what to expect from the next one. They have tonnes of obsidian rock stuff, they get it all from the nearby volcanoes, Stromboli and Vulcano.
Tomorrow we are going to explore the island called Vulcano, which is a short ferry ride from Lipari. Its a dormant volcanoe which we can climb, should be fun.
Lipari is home for the next couple of nights too, which is nice.
Nighty night
