Today was all about Vulcano. We took a short, half hour, ferry ride from Lipari to the island of Vulcano.
We toured the town very briefly to get our bearings, and then began the climb!
To give you some idea of the climb, check out the pictures, but the elevation is 501 metres and an incline of insane if you were on a treadmill.
I was pretty chuffed with myself for coming in third place in the non existant race to the top. Everyone took their time as some of the spots are quite tricky. For me the hardest part was the very beginning because its like walking in sand, and I found it hard to get a footing. Up the top was incredibly windy, but nice and warm. I took my cardy just in case, and ended up wrapping it around my head sherpa style. I think I got away with out getting wind burnt. Our guide said it takes around 1 hr to get up, 30 min to do the crator and another hour to get down, I am proud to say I got up there in 40 min flat, and 30 min coming down. GO ME!
After the climb we were totally stuffed and thought it best to rest our weary bones (and man are they weary!), so we grabbed a cafe and some food and sat at the edge of the ocean.
Now we are home! Tomorrow the gang are off to Salina, which is another island close to Lipari. I think I might give this one a miss and have a day of R & R by the ocean.
Ciao for now
