Woodchurch to Egerton and Return
The splendid greenat Woodchurch was a fitting start for an excellent ride. Along Redbrook Street, continuing through a corner of High Halden, crossing the A28 to go down the aptly named Green Lane, John and Peter were racing along - until they found the puddles and mud! Extricating themselves from the slough, they sped through Smarden, turning left along Lewd Lane and then took the Egerton road, finally reaching this well-kept village via a climb along Greenhill Lane.
The George provided a modestly priced and substantial OAP's lunch, though building work detracted from the otherwise pleasant rest in the garden.
Well rested, John and Peter returned via Pluckley, then headed South, passing Romden Castle, the family home of a scuptor convicted of stealing body parts (he buried some in the garden), and trailed throught woodland to reach Bethersden, Woodchurch road and finally Woodchurch windmill. There has ben a windmill on this site since 1729 - and it looks good for many years to come, so will hopefully be there next time John and Peter cycle by!
