After a much needed nights sleep in Bangkok, we headed to Kanchanaburi by coach. Our hotel was AMAZING. We're right on the River Kwai with a huge swimming pool which we have made very good use of! Unfortunately, someone had the bright idea of giving us the room on the top floor with our huge cases to carry up the stairs in the 40 degree heat. This mission took us at least 20 minutes as we also had to manouvre past a pooing cow which became very intimidated by our suitcases which were almost as big as it.
We were 'treated' to Thai food and then headed into town for a drink. Lucy was allergic to the cats in the bar and was not impressed while Jess had it worse off with the beginning signs of food poisoning - brill night! Jess had an enjoyable night in the bathroom while Lucy slept like a log (unaware of what was going on).
The next day was the trip to Erawan National Park where there were waterfalls for us to swim. After a bit of deliberation, Jess dragged herself out and it was definitely worth it. We swam in the pool, complete with 2 foot long fish and slid down the rocks after a long climb up. We also managed to spot some monkeys, one complete with a cracking pair of boobs and a couple were spotted rooting through peoples bags as they swam.
After a fab 12 hour sleep (we told you it was like rehab) we had our Thai cooking lesson. As we are both excellent cooks, it was delicious (NOT), the pictures speak for themselves. We then took a taxi to the Bridge on the River Kwai where loads of Chinese people took photos of us rather than the bridge, very strange. As it was fancy dress night that evening, we went in search of facepaints in the local town -success.
People in the group were struggling for fancy dress ideas and were saying 'who would bring fancy dress here?!' err, we had a choice of several different outfits and opted for Jess as a clown and Lucy as the incredibles. Everyone was very impressed with our efforts. As it was one of the girls 21st birthday we headed into town and we were back on the buckets. We played musical chairs and of course Jess won as she was concentrating so hard and her competitiveness definitely came out, winning us a bucket (score!). We then danced until we, being the most responsible, had to take the birthday girl home.
We woke up feeling suprisingly fresh this morning and even managed to catch a few pre-temple rays. This temple tour was much more successful than the last and we were one of the few people to reach the top of the 600 steps/rocks with daggers (in bare foot) at which we could see for miles and miles across Thailand. Lucy was very red and was severely hoping it was just the climb and not sunburn (see stunning photo). We went to 2 more temples and at the last temple we were taught to meditate by a monk (all very odd).
We are really excited for the Tiger Temple tomorrow. Apologies for a less exciting blog, we'll try and make the next one a little more entertaining!
