So just a quick one explaing more about the set up here in Mendoza...
So it´s a city, the capital of it´s province in Argentina (Think counties). A very clean and latino city...the streets are very well kept, and trees line every street. Like the rest of Argentina, it´s VERY European... you could easily mistake it for a town in Spain or Italy, the same goes for the Argentine peopple themselves. Technically it´s in a dessert but a complex irrigation keeps it green and fresh. Theres a huge park to the east of the city which is about the size of the city itself. The city is fairly small. I live on the outskirts and can walk to the centre within half hour...then the city is a plaza, with grass, trees, benches and a big fountain. It has a great cultural and night life here lots of bars, theatres, cinemas, galleries etc... Theres a strong cafe and dining culture too. I´ll add some pics soon. Very cool place, lots of life, history and style. Surrounding the city, are hundreds of vineyards producing wine and olive groves producing olives. We´ve a very
So I live in a student house in the 5th section of town, the nice part! Close to the park...I live with 3 other students of the same age, and the owner of the house Ana, a retired lady who knows a lot! They are all argentine, and I like them all very much, they´ve made me feel right at home. My lifestyle here is basically Mon-Fri, I part work, part study for about 5 hours a day at a place called Instituto Intercultural...a language learning centre. I teach English to adult learners, and I also take Spanish and Italian lessons. Theres loads of activites organised by this place, such as language exchanges, tango lessons, Argentine film screenings etc.. you´re never lost for something to do...I am also affiliated with the University here, taking part in activites like films, sports, trips and have met plenty of other people this way. In my spare time, well, theres a lot to do. Generally I try to do an excursion at the weekends, usually an adventure activity, or if not a day tour. If not, you can spend a morning in the plaza with a friend sharing a coke or mate (staple Argentine drink)...theres bars for the evening, or for something a bit tamer the gym, the park, rent a film watch TV etc... I´ve become pretty good with Spanish since being outhere and don´t use English, except when teaching.
Thats alll!
